Almost ready to take the plunge...just a few more Q's :)

I'm pretty sure that I'm going to take advantage of the Turkey Day mail-in flash sale. Seems like too good of a deal to pass up. I have some questions though.

Here are the power mods currently on my 04 Evo RS:

Buschur 3" turboback w/Random Tech 3" cat
Buschur MAF pipe and filter
Buschur upper IC pipe w/1G valve
AMS lower IC pipe
Walbro 255 lph pump
SAFCII
LM-1 Wideband with bung before the cat
Blitz sbc id3 boost controller

Here are my questions:

(1) Do you have a decent base flash for this combo that isn't too much of a stab in the dark? I know that it's similar to a Buschur Stage 2 except for the Walbro and LIC pipe.

(2) I have a set of 660cc Buschur injectors on the shelf that I could install. Should I install them before getting the reflash? Any downside on how well you can flash for these through the mail compared to the stock injectors?

(3) I'm thinking of getting a TME 16G turbo. Do you think that this mail-in flash would still be okay if I redial in the AFR with the SAFC after the upgrade, or would the timing be way off? This is one of the reasons I'd lean to putting in the 660s now. (I know that I should do cams next, but I'm waiting until NoVA goes to the OBD-II plug-in test -- which should be in a year or so I hope)

(4) Finally, if I do the mail-in flash, what should I do with the wideband and SAFCII? Should I use the SAFC to dial in a particular AFR, so that if the mail flash results in an especially lean or rich mixture on my car that I can keep it at an optimal point (say 11.2:1 or so)?

Thanks,
Rich

1 - Yes we have very good base maps for that set up

2 - you do not need the injectors for that set up until you add aditional mods

3 - We have maps that will work with that turbo and - see answer to #4

4 - You should use the mail in flash as your base line calibration - you will see significant timing improvements and the a/f ratio will be very close. Then you can use your SAFC and wideband to dial in the tune to your preferene

Thanks for the quick response. On the 660 injectors, I know that I am far from needing them right now, but is there any downside to installing them now so that I can get them factored into the baseline tune?

Also, on shipping, any reason not to use FedEx Ground?

Thanks.

The stock injectors work best - the idle becomes slightly rougher - (very slightly) when you go to the slightly bigger injectors

Fed ex ground is fine - if your that patient !

I am on the bubble between getting the injectors or not also.

Why is the idle rougher with the larger injectors?? Or can you perfectly tune the larger injectors on a custom tune.

Mods on mine are:

Dynoflash TTM flash (for HKS filter)
Apexi filter
264 cams
TME turbo
SSautochrome manifold
3" turboback
Walbro 255
boost controller
Greddy FMIC
HKS Super AFR for fine tuning
LM-1 Wideband

I am thinking that I need larger injectors, but I want to keep a good idle. I also wanted to get the Idle flash on mine too.

Anybody with custom tune on 660's want to chime in with a feeling on the idle change with the larger injectors and the Dynoflash??

Brian

Okay, I'll stick with stock injectors. I put my ECU into FedEx today and you'll get it tomorrow. FedEx Ground is a no-brainer. Overnight service for a fraction of the cost. Shipping was only $6.36!

I still need to send you payment by PayPal. What should the total be? $149.99 plus how much for return shipping? Since FedEx Ground is just as fast for me as FedEx Express Standard, I'm hoping that you can save me a few bucks by returning it using FedEx Ground rather than FedEx Express.

Here's the FedEx tracking number: 0457 1593 5399 138.

I'll send payment as soon as you reply!

Thanks,
Rich

I have 660 injectors with 264 cams.
My idle is fairly rough. But I have not been back to Al to get his idle flash fix yet.
My thought on the injectors are that my car runs a lot richer now.
Open loop is fine, but closed loop doesn't seem to be able to compensate completely for them.
The back of my car is routinely black with soot. And my plugs foul fairly quick, which is one reason I use the
cheaper NGK BPR7ES plugs. I change them every 3K, when I do the oil.

Please get down to see me asap - you will love the idle flash and it will help with that pulg fouling as well - its a dramatic gain and FREE!

I'd love to, but when I have the free time, your usually gone.
You got to get less popular so we locals can get more time with you

Paul's car sounded good at the last BBQ. Just don't forget about me

Al, are you able to tune the closed loop better now with the 660 cc injectors? I know the idle flash improves the idle with cams, but are you able to tune the closed loop portion of the fuel maps more closely now with a custom tune? I don't want to run into the same problems that mikesevo8 is having.

For those of you talking about getting injectors read this thread I posted. It helped me out a great deal. https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=102582

Finally got my ECU with the new mail-in tune installed in the car and took a test drive (I've been out of town for over a week with the reflashed ECU just sitting around waiting for me to get home). I'm very happy with the car's performance. Very obvious improvement. In a way, the mods I had seemed to hurt drivability a bit, but with the flash the car feels integrated and much more responsive now.

I didn't have a lot of contact with Al -- just one phone call -- but he was very professional and I had no concerns trusting his work. I was on the fence at first after reading a lot of negative feedback on the boards, but Al clearly has been working very hard to deliver great customer service and his good samaritan efforts like the military free tune and his contributions to threads on tuning in the Evo Engine/Tuning forum convinced me that he deserved a shot. The case study threads on this forum also were a great window into his tuning philosophy, which also put me at ease. Finally, after reading about some of the recent engine melt-downs with the UTEC and AEM, I'm more convinced than ever that a flash is the best approach for a tune and forget street car. Again, I'm very satisfied with my Dynoflash experience. Thanks, Al!
