I think Al was just talking to me in his comment. I have been custom tuned by him already to an HKS hi-power, and so changing exhausts from his custom tune would cause me to run lean.

Since the evo comes real rich from the factory, it really shouldn't be a big deal for you I don't think. But I guess it also depends what else would be put on coming from the stage 2, anything that would also make it run lean might not be a good combination.

So Al, is it the cold weather, or the exhaust, or a mix of the 2 that made this IX get about 20HP more then usual?

I would guess $825 for the TBE w/test pipe plus $150 for the HFC.

Question

The MBC also allows the car to hold higher boost towards redline. Even with the flash, the car can't be told to hold high psi at redline, so the MBC comes into play.
These questions are for Al, since he will be the one tuning my car in 2 weeks. I have the Buschur/Warrtalon package sitting in my living room right now waiting to be put on, but i just haven't had the time. I was going to put the TBE on this week and drive around a little bit and then put the MBC on next week before the tune. From what bernardo has said it seems like i shouldn't put the TBE on without the MBC to "limit" the psi since it will be overboosting with this TBE on. Al, is putting with TBE on without something to limit the boost really going to let the car overboost to 24-25 psi? I know putting the TBE on the car would allow it to overboost a little but i was only thinking 2-3 psi at most. Al, if its not going to overboost as much as bernardo said, will it be ok to install the TBE and cruise around for a week before putting the MBC on? And last question for Al, if the car is really going to overboost this much would you suggest just to put the TBE and MBC on at the same time and keep the boost at stock psi till my tune? Any other suggestions or comments on this Al are helpful i want to make sure my car is running really good and smooth for the tune in 2 week. Thanks a lot.

Will

You should be good with installing the TBE without a MBC as long as you don't punch it and build too much boost. If you have a boost gauge, that will be pretty easy to avoid. The consensus is that your IX will overboost if you floor it with the exhaust on because there's so much less backpressure. Everyone seems to be overboosting and getting a fuel cut around 5-6000rpm in 3rd or 4th gear. If you take it easy on the car until the MBC is installed, you're all set.
