boost question evo 9

boost question evo 9

I installed an autometer boost gauge last weekend. it shows 15hg at idle and 20hg at decel with no gas, which seems to mirror my cammed 08(assuming that the idle hg is a tad higher than my 08 prior to cams due to mivec), but at full throttle in any gear, only hits 17psi and holds steady. I have a forge mbc from al ready to go in, just curious as to why it only holds 17psi. I thought that the cars were 20-21 from the factory.
rest of the car is bone stock...
tapped into the fpr line at the intake, using a good quality rubber tubing with no apparent leaks.

thoughts?

it peaks at 19-21 but anything after, i believe 5000rpm, the ecu cuts max boost to 16-17psi to redline.

Stock boost is 20.3psi tapering to 17psi, but not every car runs exactly the same. Either your gauge is off, which is very very possible, or your IX just happened to run weaker boost from the factory. If that's the case, then unless you have a mechanical defect (highly doubtful), then you will have huge gains with the mbc/flash/exhaust, because you'll end up in the same place as other IXs, but you will have started from a lower power level.

Btw, 08s aren't out yet...=P

mine has never hit 20psi, even starting out at 2k rpms and just letting it run up the power band. my 8(thanks warr) used to hit 20 and fall to 16 at redline.
I guess I will unhook my boost gauge and try it with my compressor set at 20psi.
hope it's just that my car is underboosting
