FUEL PUMP warning and advisory !

I am recomending that ALL Evos that run ANY dyno flash get a fuel pump upgrade to the Walboro fuel pump which our Authorized evom forum dealer NINO's Auto Acce sells for $90.00

I have already revised my stock base dyno flash for stock evos to incorporate the fuel pump upgrade and I am srongly suggesting that ALL stock evos getting my dyno flash add the fuel pump also

I am working on a Fireball 3 reflash to tune the now famous Fireball 2 specifically for the pump and will now offer the Fireball 2 for guys with the stock pump and Fireball 3 with the Walboro (I will be providing free upgrades from Fireball 2 to 3 - customer pays shipping)

Anyone who wants a custom dyno flash of any kind is very stongly advised to get a walboro pump in there BEFORE YOUR TUNE APPOINTMENT

I will continue to support and provide tunes for people who want to run the stock pump - however - ALL evo owners are stongly advised to upgrade the fuel pump to the Walboro 255 pump if you are making any modifications what so ever to your evo

Please don't wind up blowing your engine over a $90.00 fuel pump and a half hour install - its cheap insurance and I have evidence that the stock fuel pumps are not working properly and causing loss of fuel pressure under extreme operating conditions

Al, thanks for the heads up, but I'm curious as to why you are now suggesting we do this? Your critics will say this is a marketing ploy. Although I disagree, I would like you to provide a technical basis for such a suggestion. Kinda like heading the critics off at the pass...I certainly value your knowledge and suggestions, I'd just like some clarification!

i believe it would be because the fuel pump gets maxed out, and just cannot produce enough fuel

Has this just been determined? Why is this being mentioned now? Understand where I'm going with this? I'm a 'why' person...lol!

Whatup,

I have been seeing more posts about the fuel pump issues.

For $90, I will probably do it as insurance. My question would be, is this plenty of fuel pump if I stay with stock turbo? In the near term, I will have SAFCII, MBC, Buschur AB and 2.5" DP, so not crazy mods, but I would like the fuel pump to be "scaleable".

What's the stock fuel pump capacity? I have seen the install howto, and I think even I can do it, hehe. BTW, are there symptoms of a bad stock fuel pump (other than a blown engine)? Would the upgraded fuel pump increase perf to any degree?

Sorry for all the questions...

Take care,

FB

Hey Al,

What happen to all your previous custom dynoflash tuned car? My car did not have any upgraded fuel pump when I get dynoflashed at Pruven.

I'm planning to get the fuel pump. Will I need retuning after installing the fuel pump?

Thx.

i have the turbo performance magazine from this month in front of me and it just so happens that they tested the stock fuel pump for the evo8, and it states it is good for 400 BHP, i don't know how much that is in "our" hp, but....my assumptions were that the stock pump was good to 300 whp

however at 13.5 volts, the fuel pump at 35 PSIG is good for 583.3, but at 80 psi its only good for 206 BHP and 78 LTR/Hr

OK Al So what about the people that already have your dynoflash that don't have a fuel pump. There was nothing said about a fuel pump when I got my flash. If there was I would have got one before you went to Agile.

Can we just put a 255 pump in with the current dynoflash or would we need a retune?

Just to back Al up, at least one other Evo tuner makes a very similar strong recommendation to upgrade to the Walbro 255lph pump -- strong enough that at a recent dyno tuning day, two of us were swapping in Walbros in the parking lot before rolling onto the dyno.

Well, Shiv's problem may have been exacerbated by the elevation in Colorado. Things just don't work the same at sea level and 6k feet altitude.

At any rate, the pump is cheap insurance.

Guys, I'm one of Al's biggest fans. No need to protect him when he's NOT being attacked.

I'm only curious 'why' do I need this fuel pump...what happened or what did he find that warranted him suggesting that product to his customers.

I've spent alot of money, and I want to be sure of the reasons for dropping another $100; that's all...

I'm more curious about the technical reasoning...
