E85 and Low Boost
Let's say you are happy with the power you make now. Why should you go to E85?
Well, besides the geopolitical, economic and environmental reasons, with E85 you could make the same power you make now with LESS boost. Nothing wrong with that at all. Lower EGT's. Run more timing. Turbo spools faster. And you place less stress on your engine. Sounds like a 'win win' to me.
I was running 20psi for the past six months. I was absolutely amazed at how fast the car was even at that "low" boost. You will definitely like low boost and E85 combo.

I'm not into making big numbers out of my car...I just want to squeeze a little more out...and also I've heard of e85 being a better cleaning agent and making the car run better all around...
So my biggest thing is have a nice e85 tune that is yet safe and is better for the car.
I have a dual map of 91 and E85, both boosting roughly the same at 20psi. The difference between the two is significant. On E85 the car is super responsive and spools extremely quickly. Going back to the 91 tune always makes me go "hmmm...this feels sluggish" even though it's a solid setup.
It's well worth the switch to E85 IMO. Your sig says you have a HFC? You can put a test pipe on with E85 and not worry about the smell. That'll give you some gains on top of just changing the fuel.
I have over 100k miles on my car which is why I'm keeping boost a bit lower. But even at 20psi E85 feels AMAZING.

And I plan on keeping the cat on the car...I don't want to have to deal with changing it out even just that once a year for inspection...plus I like how quiet my HKS exhaust is...
I've done tests with keeping the exact same boost from 91 oct to E85, but just running E85 timing and AFR and I've seen gains from 40-50whp.
So yes you will still gain a ton of power with the same boost levels. However, you will be missing out on alot of area under the curve gains that the higher boost will give you.

On my car at only 10psi I was albe to make about 380hp on a Dyno Jet. For the streets I turn my boost way down.
For me, I think having a very good Tune from low boost to high boost is the only way to have a great car. So when ever I tune my car I start with as little boost as possible and work my way up.
One e85 I could run 35psi(42psi if I had more pump
) all day long and not feel bad however there is not point to subject my motor to that abuse all day long that is why I dial it back.

Thought I'd through this up...fresh from the FWIW dept.
Jay at Boosted Tuning just finished a very nice conservative 25psi E85 tune on my VIII. Car runs fantastic BTW. Maps are much smoother and with far better taper than I could muster. Thanks Jay.
Being the ever curious type I wanted to see what it would make at stock boost level. Here is an uncorrected comparo of a 25 psi pull vs. a 19 psi pull. I must admit I was shocked to see the whp was exactly the same. Obviously torque takes a dump, but I fully expected that.

Comments?

Makes sense, I assume the turbo is tapering to approx the same boost at peak HP on both.
I've done that test before, and like your graph shows, you lose a whole crap ton of area under the curve but usually make the same peak hp, eventually...
Much like I stated in post #23 five months ago.
