you can buy a tester from summit for like 15 bucks.
if you're talking about running a setup similar to the flex fuel vehicles and using a gauge to read your fuel mix, i'd imagine that costing quite a bit of money.

Not sure if I'm understanding your question correctly but if you're referring to using a gauge to see the actual ethanol/gas mixture then it might be a good idea to have a gauge of some kind. Since not every tank of e85 will have the same mixture, it could have an effect on how your car runs if you have a tank of it where the percentage of ethanol in the tank is lower.

i also think that would depend on where you live, i can see why you would need it in really cold winters over in the east but places like ca....not so much..most of the gas stations ive seen never go lower than 80...75 the lowest
