Read from ECU window is blank...

Hey all... I posted this over on OpenECU.org but am not getting much feedback. It seems like I might be missing something simple...

Posted: Tue Jul 04, 2006 2:57 pm
"Hey everyone. I've been searching for several hours here and on EvoM and cannot find an answer to this.

2003 Evo 8
OpenPort 1.3 Mitsu form Tactrix
EcuFlash 1.28
Windows 2000 Pro

I can read OBDII data using EvoScan on the OpenPort, so I know at least that is working. Only EcuFlash is running, and I see OpenPort 1.3 listed in the bottom right as the interface.

When I click the Read from ECU icon, a small EcuFlash window pops up with two buttons, Read and Cancel. The white space in the window is blank, Read is grayed out, and nothing happens. Ignition on/off has no affect.

What am I doing wrong?

Thank you!
Ethan"

Make sure that you have under options at least developer level selected. This may or may not be your problem.

I was in advanced mode, and I think I tried developer as well. But I'll double check that...thanks.

Try reinstalling it.. First, you need to make sure the driver is installed with the FTDxx.DLL driver, so the first thing you need to see is if that loaded, the other things in that window when you start the app is you need to see if it loads the mitsubishi related microcode.. If it doesnt, it means something is missing in your metadata, or your metadata directory is incorrect and it can't find the bootloader..

Copy and paste what the righthand pane says when you first start the app, make sure the cable is plugged in before you start the program, and that the OpenPort 1.3 cable port is selected..

Thanks Jack. As far as I could tell, everything loaded. I have the OpenPort selected, and it is listed in the bottom right corner. Here is the right pane output. How do I check to see if the driver DLL is loading? It's easy to tell that in EvoScan...

[00:51:11.256] 18 ROM metadata models read.

If the cable wasn't loaded correctly, Evoscan wouldn't work, and you would get an error that says "Error Loading FTDxx.DLL"

Right...EvoScan works fine. So I still need to use the definitions you posted with the newest EcuFlash version?

This maybe a noobie question, but will EcuFlash 1.28 run (or run properly) on Win 2000? I use Win XP as indicated on their website.

No, they are included with the newest version of ECUFlash.. not only that, but there are quite a few more than originally posted..

You need to verify the directory these files are in.. It seems like its looking in the wrong place for them or your missing the entire group of files.

The program is pointed incorrectly as far as the metadata is concerned.

Go to option, rom metadata directory: It needs to read like this:

:/Program Files/OpenECU/EcuFlash/rommetadata (or wherever you have it installed, but my bet is that you have the program pointed further than just "rommetadata" and into the evo specific files which is too far....back out to just rommetadata).

Ask me how i know

Left field but make sure your port is selected correctly.

I did set the path to the files several times before I first posted. The Evo subfolder is selected.

When I get back home, I'll reinstall and reselect the directory/interface again.

I really appreciate the help on this everyone. I will start from scratch and let you know how it works. At least I know what the symptoms are indicating. Hopefully a simple wipe and reinstall will take care of it...

Cheers!
