8MR JDM ROM and xmls link

http://forums.openecu.org/viewtopic.php?p=8162#8162

I was sent an 8MR JDM ROM, so I found the main maps that interested me, some were the same as 8JDM, some I found from disassembly.

I know you guys often find JDM maps interesting.

no, now I've tried it and still get that screen that asks which def. to use. The definitions that you made and I copied into the folder that you perscribed don't show up in the drop-down. What are they labeled? "JDM EVO 8"?

This probably shouldn't be an ECUflash tutorial thread, but for me it just works when I put those xml files in the correct directory - they appear in the list of ROMs to inherit or copy.

Your other alternative would be to just define from scratch, then manually edit the xml file by copying and pasting.

Suggest reading up on openecu and here on xml editing for further info. I'm good at finding maps, not good at working out the foibles of xml definition transfers between PCs. To test it I need to take apart my own installation IYSWIM, and with orphaned undefined.xml files having trashed my whole setup before (ie crashing ECUflash when it opens) I'm not keen to do this.

gotcha. Oh well. Guess I'll wait till someone can solve this. I already spend too much time on my car, definately don't have the interest or time to spend on programming. Man do I hate programming.

Hopefully someone can make a how-to on creating ECUflash definitions from inheriting/copying the base maps or a map that is near? This would raise the user level being just "loaded my ROM and it doesn't display". To me it is just self explanatory as I had to do this from scratch as only really the USDM ROMs are coded in ECUflash as it stands. I don't write user manuals well

I would happily contribute an advanced bit to such a how-to re hex searching with ECUedit and IDA Pro to actually find undiscovered maps once the basics are in place. This alone would be quite an undertaking, and would need the basics in place first.

Anyone up for this?
