JDM Evo IX MAP sensor group buy

It looks like the JDM Evo IX map sensor is going to work with the USDM Evos, so I'm starting a group buy on the sensors. As long as the current exchange rate stays reasonably stable, the price will be no more than $125.00 shipped to your door if I can get 10+ buyers.

I would be ready to buy one as soon as I see a working example of someone putting this on a USDM car.

Not sure what mitsubishi-jp caps is. My guy always gives me a fair price on parts. Usually its somewhat less than the price of an equivalent part in the USA. The retail price for the USDM sensor is $166, and the price on Mitsubishiparts.net for the USDM sensor is $127.50.

USDM Evo's and DSM's also have very very limited MAP sensors, in reality their just MDP sensors, used to measure engine vacuum to a few thousand feet over sea level (around 3 psi or so)

I'm not really sure what the sensor actually does in relation to all of the ECU's functions, but I think it is used in open loop mode on cold-start in some limited fashion..

Your probably right, I'm accustomed to getting the discounted "Jobber" price which is usually cost plus a small percentage.. I do know that I got one sensor coming from singapore that was significantly less than $127.. Not including shipping..

The lookup I did, doesnt include current pricing or retail pricing.. Just a dealer cost for the part..

I understand your point. I expect that only the really interested people will sign up right away. I've already determined that the USDM sensor is used to control the function of the EGR system, so some recalibration of the ECU will be necessary. There are enough people working on ECU disassembly that I think its only a matter of time until this gets done.

Edit: The info in the FSM says that the pressure sensor is only used to monitor the performance of the EGR system. It does not provide input to control it.

If it is only the EGR.. then it probably won't need much recalibration unless you want to be 100% sure its emission compliant.. But I'm sure there's a table for it..

I'm pretty sure the MDP sensor doesn't CONTROL anything in regards to the EGR system. It's just an emissions sensor to VERIFY that the EGR system is working as it should. If the sensor doesn't register a change when the EGR valve opens, then you will get a CEL because of it.

So, the question really is whether or not the JDM sensor will register enough of a change not to trip the CEL. Since the range on the JDM sensor is much greater, any relative change will be much smaller than the ECU expects in comparison to the UDSM sensor, so it may trip the code.

Guess we won't know until someone pops one on or finds the code in the ECU.

Eric

Yes, I think you are right about the purpose of the USDM sensor and whether or not the JDM sensor will cause the ECU to throw a code. The FSM indicates that the EGR system takes input from the MAF sensor, engine coolant temperature, TPS, and crankshaft position (rpm?). Later in the manual, I found the statement, ""[The] ECM monitors the operation of EGR system by the pressure difference of intake manifold between before and after introduction of EGR using the manifold differential pressure sensor."

I've got enough info now that I feel comfortable installing the JDM sensor this weekend.
