Here is a question for all the guys: I have noticed that most tuners change the cell numbers in areas of the timing map that the car is NOT going to hit @ WOT. If you take my timing map vs. John's timing map, for example, he modifies all the rpm range and all the load range above 160, while I only changed the cells where rpm and load interact and those adjacent to them.

Why is that done?

This is a 04 VIII stock16G turbo map. I scaled the load from 260 only to 280 because for some reason it knocks less while climbing to peak. If I hit 290% the ecu will pull the advance to a value I would place in a 300% collumn anyways

I added a 5250 and a 5750 to the mix to allow more control over timing up to redline.

Even though this looks like steep timing, keep in mind I'm moving less air/psi than a IX and it's on methanol.

Works good for me - no knocking and hits 305 wtq by 3500rpm (mustang dyno)

note: other than values pasted from stock 04 ROM, not one cell value was copied or used from any product.

I change the 100-200 area because I get lift off det if I don't retard there.

I change the overboost areas as well for safety.

For 98RON (like you 93), this is my map for JDM/UK IX with 3" catless exhaust, Walbro, airbox lid side cut. 25 PSI peak, 23.5 PSI held, 22 PSI at 6000, 20 PSI at red line.

It doesn't det and it runs knock sums that are typically under 3.

I can only speak for myself in this matter, but the answer is easy. I dont drive WOT all the time. I log and tune based on part throttle as much as I tune just for WOT. I want a driveable racecar, not just a raceable racecar.

Alwaysinboost, do you mind posting your timing map for 93 at 24psi on the stock turbo?

He did post it a while back although I can't remember where...

From what I remember it was a redone dynoflash that added timing in high rpm and reduced timing in the high torque areas. Sorry I can't be more specific.
