Totally Lost, please help

I am pretty much totally lost right now and really could use some help as this stuff is all new to me.

I just downloaded ecuflash software to my laptop as well as ordered the tactrix cable.

When i open ecuflash, all the clickable links are grey. Do i wait for the cable then hook it up and all the links will be usuable?

I also paid the 25 dollar fee for evoscan. Where do i download this software now? I dont understand where this comes up. Is this add on features to ecuflash? How do i view them?

I read the tutorial for how to get started using this software and the tutorial says download the evo ROM, but wasnt that already included when i downloaded ecuflash v1.29? If it wasnt where would i find evo 9 ROM?

Lastly, whats the difference between .hex and .bin files?

Thank you for your time,
JoshR

you cant do jack without the taxtric cable in ecuflash, evoscan is seperate and is a data logging tool you should of gotten a link to download the file in a email when you paid for it. You plan on getting email tuned by someone?? Hope you dont plan on messing with your own map if you are having this much trouble already.

Ecuflash - cant do much w/o the cable. Once you get the cable, you hook it up to your evo and laptop. You download the evo 9 rom from your own ecu. Then you can start modifying your maps. Make a backup copy of the original rom and keep it somewhere safe in case you mess up.

I dont know what tutorial you are referring to but this one's pretty good.

.hex/.bin - dont know the difference between the two and it doesn't matter. all you need to know is that ecuflash will not recognize the files on your computer if they do not end in .hex or .bin. so if make a map and name it, make sure it ends in .hex or .bin so that when you try to open it with ecuflash it recognizes the file.

Evoscan: email Hamish: evoscan@limitless.co.nz. Tell him your name or email address and he'll send you a link to download the software as well as your serial number.

Evoscan and ecuflash are two totally different programs. ecuflash lets you modify the maps in your rom, timing, fuel, boost etc. evoscan is for datalogging. evoscan is totally separate from ecuflash.

good luck!

Hi

Acually you can get very familiar with the software, looking at the maps and editing ROMs all with out conection to your car. Go to www.openecu.org see the forums and down the bottom are the Evo ROM sub forums. Look for those threads that post ROMs and xml files, download these, place them in the Mitsi folder and open the ROM.

It is well worth taking the time to do this when not conected to your car, get familiar now and you'll save loads of time when the cable turns up.

what ROM's did you mean? I browsed through the forum "Evo 9" under the the "Technical Ecu reverse engineering" listing, but couldnt find anything that i thought would be benificial to DL.

Do you have any specific recommendations?

Sorry for being so exhaustive,
I really appreciate it
