This is where proper boost control shines..

I'm not a fan of Manual boost controllers because you don't have this level of control.. It allows you to make your numbers and boost levels without that giant spike early on.. Great for torque numbers but terrible for so many other reasons.

mrfred....is this on a #59 drilled turbo pill and #56 drilled Solenoid pill? Also you can adjust the boost control solenoid activation rpm to start a little sooner...~200 rpm. .Nice writeup and graphs.... Im gonna add the WDC to my xml file today and play again....

mrfred, nice work. Can you show your max wastegate table from your ROM? Are you only running 25% WGD at 3500 RPM or have I mixed up your graph?

MJ -- I too was in this camp before, but now that I have my Zeitronix wideband connected and am logging boost, I have found that my modified BCS and Hallman MBC have almost identical boost curves. I am still trying to understand why my boost is hitting late (~3500 from 2000 WOT pull in 3rd), but with both the MBC and the BCS the taper was almost identical. That said, I like the ECU control for other reasons (e.g. load control, weather, overboost, etc.), but for ease of adjustment the MBC cannot be beat (IMHO).

For others: My MWGDC are 127.5 from 500 to 2750, then 87 @ 3000, 45 @3500, then 20 from 4 - 4.5K, 22 @5000, 24 @5500, 62 @ 6K, 95 @6.5K, and 127.5 @ 7K....I made a #59 pill that is in the line from the turbo nipple going to the Tee and have a #59 bleeder infront of the BCS.

I take it this won't work on the twin solenoid cars? or will it only log one of the solenoids?

Yes it would work on the twin solenoid cars. On my UK IX the two solenoids appear to be at request ID 85 and 86 from looking at the code, but I've not tested on the car as I use an AVC-R. Try it on your 8MR and post the results?

Ok i've added another line for ID 85 and called it wgdc1, will go and give it a try to see what happens

Don't recognize that name from any of the UK sites, do you have a different user name there or are you a legal alien? ( some people try to confuse you by having odd user names, like S54fan humph! )

Ok the above didn't work but the wgdc ID 86 did strange wgd though, started off at 78 and dropped to 39 at redine which is knowhere near the std jdm 8mr settings which i'm running, mine you I have been playing around with the restrictors to see what effect they'd have on the std maps, so that might explain it

Its GINGA from the mlr, my username was already taken on here I'm still around but using evoscan to try and figure out why Cryptwalks pretty much std MR can run so much boost, I've been playing with the restrictors to see if removing/changing then etc would make a difference but its seems no matter what I do the ecu simply will not allow mine to run more boost than the std settings.
Simply changing the offset makes a large difference though.

You should have gone private with JB! Might have got a proper answer then

I wonder if you are logging WGD #2 and #4 on the MR rather than #1 and #3 at ID 86. BTW I noticed Colby has added recent open files on the drop down menu, thank you sir!

Didn't work? What numbers did it give? Whilst I'd looked for these previously and failed, what Bez has found looks to be the hardware ports, and the req85 appears to be the equivalent to 86...

They will of course log different values, but not the values from the tables, what the actual solenoids are running.

At higher boost levels this might be the case, I have found great success so far with tuning 'lower' levels of boost, 03-05 evo's with cats, using an upgraded 3-port boost solenoid.

I have yet to see a MBC that can do a boost 'curve' like this at these boost levels, green plot is boost:



I actually had the boost as a totally straight line all the way to 7k but had to lower the boost after 6300 a little because of the stock cat with upgraded cams this evo had.

I've also been able to do this type of level of control with an upgrade pill with the stock BCS. This is stock cat evo 9, where I custom tailored the boost curve, which you cannot do with a MBC:



Evo 9 with 3 port solenoid, cams and cat, programmed boost drop at 6000 because of cat and cams:

This is the real power of ecu-controlled boost over a MBC. Custom tailoring the boost profile based on the mods and the cars reaction to them and boost.

Basic question here...

Is WGDC the solenoid duty cycle? Or is it the actual duty cycle of the waste gate valve? I assume the former. There is no sensor at the waste gate valve...right?

Thanks jcsb. I wish I could take full credit, but I started with a Vishnu flash. I just made some changes to suit my preferences and try to improve upon it. Since I did start with a Vishnu flash, I'm not sure I should post the actual maps even though they are now somewhat different than the Vishnu values. However, I figure its fair enough to say that that the posted WGDC curve is not too different than what I programmed into the MWGDC tables. :-)
