Apexi drop-in filter?
No problem, I didn't take the photo, it's from a link NJ posted earlier in the thread.
It's smaller on the filter side.
Again, I am not an engineer by any means and don't try and play one on the internet. I do know that most of the filters I have tuned for that have filter to MAF adapters have played with MAF readings while the ones that do not have that adapter, do not.

Personally I would get the Ebay as its pretty much the exact same thing as the old style BR and 1/4 of the price. The only changes to the new BR are the white filter element and rounded edges of the top piece, the base, overall design and faux velocity stack is exactly the same. I would not be suprised if both ebay and BR get them from the same supplier.

Interested to see the data you obtain though nj1266!
The chart showed that the AFR leaned out when the filter was added. Did that trigger any knock? Should I richen the car by about 0.25 points in anticipation of a leaner mixture with the filter?
I would keep an eye on your AFR either way.
You can make a L bracket out of metal, one side attaches to the bottom left bolt on the maf and the other on the frame where the stock box was. This is what BR supplies.
Search for 1995-1999 Eclipse GSX filter...it will fit on an Evo.

Just a heads up on my testing with this ebay filter so far. I am not done yet, because I want to make sure that my findings are as accurate as possible.
If your car is like mine with a TBE with a test pipe, then there are almost no power gains to be found. Maybe 3 hp and that could be a margin of error due to many variables that enter in street dyno logging.
Yeah, It makes a lot of fun noise and you can hear your turbo spool, but IMO it is not worth it since it will attract unwanted attention from the police.
Again, I am not done testing, but so far, it is not worth it to use this filter on lightly modded cars like mine.
I will test this filter on my friend's 05 with 272 cams and see if there are any gains. But this will have to wait until he comes back from overseas.

Your findings are inline with mine so far NJ. I should have cammed results soon as well.
I do know on higher modified cars it does indeed make a difference as my Evo gained almost 25whp where it was previously maxed out.

The thing that makes me uneasy about this filter is the unwanted attention that it attracts. You begin hearing the turbo spool when you hit around 3000 rpm. If you go into 4000 rpm, then you will surely attract the attention of the cops. Today, I was driving to the LA airport and I saw a lot of cops. I was really concerned that the cops could hear the car. A cop happened to pull the car right behind me over. It made my heart sink, since I thought it would be me.
After I am done with testing, I will go back to the stock filter since there are very small gains to be had with this filter on my lightly modded car.
If my car was putting 400 dynojet whp (around 350-360 on an MD), then I will put this filter on for sure.
Good to know we are seeing the same data.
I hear you on the noise. I wish I didn't have to run a open filter on my personal evo for that same reason. Some people do like the noise though.
As much as I hate to say it, for the people that want the VTA BOV sound without the VTA BOV problems, an open air filter is a good solution as it's almost hard to not hear the BOV sound with it.
