Razorlab did you cut an additional cutout on the top of the lid closet to the ACD resorvoir? You can cut out a triangular piece and get some more airflow to the filter that way.

Bumping this thread as codgi brought it to my attention.

I too was cautious about moving away from the stock box and drop in filter. But I was having a problem with my car holding boost and breathing in general after cams and intercooler piping etc. So I found a used Buschur filter locally and tested it out. I noticed much better boost holding at high RPM's and seat of the pants power increases. This was back before ECUflash or logging so I couldn't gather data.

So having seen good performance increases with the filter I then built a semi-ghetto airbox out of a plastic storage bin. That worked great for me for years. I wanted to to study the effect of adding the airbox but didn't have the tools at the time.

I'm now in the process of developing a production airbox that has universal fitment to any intake and will work across all EVO's including ACD cars.

I'm a mechanical engineer and started a little business, [BINARY] to develop engineered products for the EVO community.

I'm just getting started with the testing and data collection. See this thread.

I'm using my own thermocouples to gather the intake temp and ambient temp. The factory sensor is slow to respond and doesn't have an ambient reference point.
