On a small turbocharger that hits early , A smooth ramp from 0-3* when the boost is coming on, getting up to 5-7 @5500 then making the way to 12-14@8000 is a good area to start on most 4g63's and fuels. Remember, more isn't always more.

Having a professional tune your car then making small changes here and there is a safe way to go also. There are well known tuners with solid reputations that have tuned 100's of cars . Sometimes they are booked for weeks but its money well spent on your investment.

I get it but where I am I’ll take my chances all day self tuning it then taking it to someone around. I used to take it to people to tune it. Come to find out they were copying and pasting maps and not even trying to refine them. I did a head gasket and installed bigger cams and the tuner could t figure out why my car was idling in the 11s. That’s where I started to learn about tuning and got a lot of help from a member on here who taught me a lot. Ended up refining this map I posted and got the car running awesome. I’m eager to learn more. I think it’s very interesting. With all the info on here and some awesome members who are willing to help how can you not do it yourself.

nor11384,
Totally with ya. I logged 2 hours of data in MAP mode and 2 hours in MAF mode just to get the fuel spot on. Then several more hours tuning the timing which then requires tweaking the fuel (map/maf). If you take your car to a tuner and it's done in a few hours; you have a copy/paste map that if your lucky doesn't knock, but isnt a TUNE. I have seen tuners not even turn on the knock flash light. That's just plain stupid. Luckily our boost tables are quick due to the awesome ecu.

Its important to research everything and the track records that people develop. Its also equally important to choose and refine your combination of parts to be tuned.
Glad you got it running and knowledge is power. We have to be comfortable with the path we choose to take.

Absolutely abacus. My tuner tuned my car in 3 pulls. Come to find out cel was set to flash at 17 counts of knock. Next tuner tuned it in 2 pulls. Then when I installed gsc s2 cams he couldn’t figure out why it was running so rich saying it was my fault installing cams wrong. Made me go over everything again. That’s where I said enough and started trying it myself. That’s where I got help from here and still learning

Yeah I know it’s conservative but did some wot pulls and was running 9* up top and got 1 - 2 counts of knock so I dialed it down and knock went away. Maybe bad gas? Idk. I was thinking of trying it again to see. Virtual dyno was showing me 390 - 400whp before I dialed timing back. I configured virtual dyno with wheel diameter, weight, etc. How accurate do you guys think this is? I don’t think this thing is making 400whp. This is spiking 31psi dropping to 26 ish. Full bolt ons.

VD is pretty darn close if you get the tire diameter, car weight and a VERY FLAT level road to test on. I tuned a car a few weeks ago and VD showed 650hp. Last week he took the car to a real dyno (Dynojet) and got 685hp. The day we tuned it was very hot and I didn’t have correction turned on. So it was very close. I can pretty much tell you there is no way you made 400hp with that turbo, but if you spun it on the wheels I bet it’s around 370hp so it’s not terrible far off. Maybe you were going slightly down hill when you made your pull? Dips in the road will also cause a high/low reading.

e85 would get you over 400hp, just get some larger injectors....yea yea that’s the ticket! Lol

Lol thought about e85 but have to buy stuff eh. The road I did it on was pretty damn straight. It’s a highway right by the airport here where it’s pretty empty at night. No dips or anything like that. Now full bolt ons on 93 what kind of timing are people running up top at higher load areas? I just dialed it back to what the car seemed to like. I just don’t know why it showed 1 or 2 counts

Did it knock consistently or was it just a one off log? What did the AFR's look like?

Afrs were 11.2 - 11.4. I did 2 pulls and both showed knock. One more than the other. Adjusted timing to what I posted and it went away.

Those seem like reasonable AFR's. Did you try adding or subtracting fuel at all to see if it made it better/worse?

Are you running 31psi on 93 octane?

Your not gonna get much more than 7~8 degrees up top at those boost levels on pump gas IMO, especially with the stock intercooler. Pushing the stock turbo that hard heats up the air tremendously. If you don’t want to buy more parts you can always run 50/50 race fuel/pump mix for those Saturday night street fights. Use alt maps and have a race fuel map that will get you over 400hp. Just saying.
