Can't seem to work out knock on spool up
Can't seem to work out knock on spool up
Here are three third gear pulls, one I ran spool up at around 12.5 afr and the others richer as rich as 10.9 and still got knock even with negative timing.
Im running a 2.4 4g64, SOHC, 9-1 CR wiesco pistons, 16g turbo, 10.5 hotside, 3 inch downpipe dumping under the car, plugs and 2 ranges colder (copper) gapped at .028, modded wrx injectors flowing 850cc at 43.4 psi and 914cc at 50 psi.

lol, dude I only looked at your first log, so take it for what it is. You're getting rediculous knock before peak torque holding all the way out... that sounds like your dump tube is too loud. Knock comes on right when your WG would be opening some perhaps. Check for your DP bumping something. This is definately something mechanical, not the tune. -10 timing at 11.5AFR doesn't produce 35 counts of knock.
honki24 u think i have the same problem? or something similar?

Well, unpluged the sensor to test and it pulls hard. Either the sensor is torqued on to tight or my lack of balance shafts along with some lifter tap might be causing it. I also noticed my car likes to run a little leaner, Im guessing that is because maybe the SOHC and the ****ty valve size makes it harder for it to scavage out the exhaust gasses causing a EDTS to go up when its a tad rich but that just my guess. EGT'S stay lower at around 11.6 to 11.8 amd conservative timing. So Ill be looking more into the knock sensor today and tommorow.
Strong parts reflect or transfer harmonics rather than absorb would be my guess.
Make a thread in the engine, turbo, drivetrain forum to find what others have done in similar cases.
ActiveMatrix also has some info on the topic in one of, I think, Bez Bashni's threads.
Got a log of one without sensor? I would set the timing 3deg less first though before disabling the sensor for one quick pull(2nd gear would be best)

I Pulled the knock sensor and retorqued it to spec thinking maybe that was the culprit. Also changed vrackets on the exhaust hangers for the DP. One was a metal bracket. So we will see if maybe that is it. As for the 9 count knock sum with the sensor unplug, I assume thats the ecu's saftey measure to seeing that the knock sensor is gone.
ALot less knock this time around,so next I did experiment with the knock filters based off of a lot of posts I read, I went through all 12 maps, and highlighted the 160 to 320 fields, 2k to 4k and bumped those filters up by 20 percent, *1.2, and did a few more runs, the phantom knock is gone, no surging, missing, EGT's are in check running 11.5 to 11.2 afr's. So it worked for me. Power levels based off of EVOscans calcs have not dropped at all.
Glad to hear you worked it out!
I have a 4g64 SOHC I'm rebuilding, and swapping over to maual to use the EVO ROM. If I run into your problem, I'll might PM you about what you did to the knock filter maps!
