LC-1: No real time data link? HELP

Ok heres the deal. Got the LC-1 all connected and calibrated over the weekend, I think anyway (Led went through the blinking conditions stated in the manual and then remainded steady).

I thought all was good, buttoned up the car and then later plugged the serial cable into my laptop. Started up Logworks and I get the error "no real time data" use LM programmer or something. Not certain but it seems like the serial cable is not being recognized by the laptop.

What should I trouble shoot. I have been reading about several grouding issues with the LC-1. Is this the first place I should start? Would a bad ground give me this error or is it simple a driver issue on the laptop and how can I diagnosis it if it is?

almost certain your problem is the serial connection with the laptop.

first try re cycling the key, turn off on a couple of times, remember to open the door so power is completely off.

make absolutely certain the plugs into and out of your innovate is a good connection,
they need to be push in as far as they can go.

what usually works for me is, unplugging and replugging the usb on the laptop, although I did read some one had good effect by unplugging the serial usb connection. this is generally the fix for the problem you have.

if your laptop has a serial connection, try cycling the key and check your connections.

Can you elaborate on this? I am getting mixed information regarding the connections.

I do have a serial connection on my laptop which I am using to directly connect to the LC-1

The problem for me has not been intermittent. I has not worked once in several trys. Is the connection really this tempermental? I am now thinking I should have just stayed with my Tuner Pro from Turboxs (never had these types of issues).

I think that I may have solved my own problem. Are the LED and Switch wired in parallel or series? The instructs were alittle vauge on this point. I think that I wired them in parallel which thinking about it now would not work as desired.

They go in parallel.

Definitely make sure the car is off before inserting the cable and terminator into the serial connections.

yeah the 2.5mm serial connector actually shorts out when inserting/removing.

this causes a loop and puts the LC1 into programming mode, usually overwriting all your settings/calibration.

best bet is to frack off the serial connector and use the analogue output wired into the ECU.

I have been doing that for a week and have had ZERO problems with the LC1..

/touch wood!

Thanks. Guess I will be pulling my consol apart once again and rewiring to the ECU given MrFred's instructions. I have allready ordered the pins that I need. First though I am going to take a volt meter home and check everything is indeed working properly.

Just got finished reading the complete instructions for routing the analog output through the ECU. Does anyone have the code for modding ROM 94170015?

tephra has a v5 94170015 ROM. Grab that from his v5 thread.
