Tuning issues; car won't lean out?
So I recently installed FIC 1050's, and an LC-1. I'm doing tephra v5 map switching and trying to tune for just pump gas, pump + alky, and also tune my cruise AFR's to ~16 but I'm having all kinds of weird issues.
The injectors are dialed in. ~0% LTFT's low and mid.
First off, and the biggest concern, is the power tuning. I have to lean my fuel table like 3 FULL points to get it to lean out slightly. Moving it 1 point results in ~.3 AFR leaner on the wideband. On my alky tune, I keep leaning the car out and leaning the car out, to the point now where I'm in the low 15's in the power-area of my map and the car is still running 10.6 afr up top.
Same is true for lean-cruise. I'm with it at ~17.x I'm just now getting to 15.6 or so AFR at cruise. The odd thing is, I have timing set to ~38 and I keep seeing 39's and 40's show up, this does not make sense!
Anyone have any insight? Thanks in advance!

The higher timing advance that you are seeing is due to the EGR system kicking in. When it kicks in, the ECU advances the ignition timing beyond the values in the timing table in a select rpm and load range.
You're seeing the fuel issue with the alky turned off?

I assume cruise is defaulted to open loop
OEM MAF?
If so, maybe you can also try scaling your MAF. Little work though, should paste the current values on to XY Scatter to get the factory profile. Then adjust the numbers to mimic less air flowing to trick the ECU but maintain the profile.
Not related to topic but I recently found that EGR is not dependant upon NB closed loop operation, that is open loop cruise is recirculated too - which is good for me.

thanks for the info on the egr mrfred, that makes sense. The primary problem is under WOT tuning with alky on. I have my non-alky map pretty squared away, and just after I posted this I headed home for the day and finally saw the car go way lean under cruise. I'm not sure why, but I wasn't seeing consistent values originally, but now the car was cruising at like 17.5:1
not what I want, but it shows results at least!
Alky tune, I'm in the 15's and AFR is still in the high 10's. I'm running a single 1mm jet on an aquamist hfs1. Could there be something goody with my Alt map rom from tephra? The car switches boost profiles for sure, so pRt of it works

Finally I'm getting somewhere. I had to grow some ***** and actually lean the crap out of the map, these 1050cc injectors coupled with a 1mm Aquamist jet flow a LOT of fuel!!! I now have my tuned map in the 15.5-16.1 range and I am *finally* seeing 11.2-11.3 AFR's.
My lean cruise is working as well, hovering around 16.2AFR, while my map values are i the 17.3-17.9 range. fuel trims are still hovering around zero before doing this, so I feel confident my injectors are dialed in and not causing weird issues.
The main problem I'm having is my pump gas vs alky tune. At first I thought something was wrong, but in fact I think I am simply at the limit of the IX turbo. With a tightened WGA, JDM Map, GM BCS, and direct boost mod my boost is very very similar after 5500rpms on the pump and pump/alky map. My 2-byte airflow values are very similar in the same area, besides the fact that I'm running an extra 9* of timing.
I think a bigger turbo or a higher pressure WGA are my only options for making more power up top on alky. Below 5500 is a different story. 29psi vs 24psi, I'm making a crap-load more torque

Boost is right around 24-25 at 5500 and tapers to 22 by 7500:

Here you can see my 2-byte airflow coming together:

These are not "final" tunes, but just where I'm at right now. AFR is still a bit wonkey, I need to spend more time dialing it in, but you can see the two tunes doing what I'm describing. The weird thing is, my AFR map in ecu flash is ~11.5's from 3000-4000, then at 4500+ is when I need to start leaning it waaaay out. Alky is flowing at 3500-4000.

Wow I am really leaning my map out to get the results I want; I am in the high 16's, low 17's now from 4500-7000 to get ~11.6afr across the board on my alky map. The car seems to like it; I'll be hitting the dyno saturday, we'll see what happens....
Nope, I'm using realistic 11.x or 12.x numbers to get 11.0AFR's on my pump gas tune. Just with the alky tune, a LOT of fuel has to come out I guess. I'm using a single 1.0mm jet, some guys are using TWO of these. I can't imagine how that'd work :P
So, just when I thought I had my AFR dialed in on my alky map, the car starts running like crap. Why? Because the massive boost leak I had turned into a VERY MASSIVE BOOST LEAK! This explains the problems I was having, I finished my pump gas tune and all was well, then onto alky and it was a huge PITA, seemed like no matter what I did it would not lean out. I did a boost leak test only a few weeks ago! Just goes to show: do it again!
AGGGGGGHHH! Oh well, off to the dyno tomorrow
