Here is another vendor that sells ACD modified control unit. There is a link to a pdf as well

you are correct the AYC is not on permanently.... AYC controls the traction (power) to each rear wheel. when the AYC is not engaging the rear diff is open like an ordinary RWD (without LSD) SO if you unplug the computer there is nothing controlling the power to each wheel, so the wheel with the least amount of load will spin and the other wheel will get nadda!!! (or very little)

IF however you were able to control the AYC ecu you could tell it to be actively splitting 50% power to each wheel 100% of the time to keep it locked or under certain load conditions etc..... (in theory)

If im wrong please let me know.....
now i see, basically, AYC unplugged = NO LSD!

damn, that simple.

on the other hand AYC is very Very unpredictable!

Not that I have ever driven a car with it... but I thought AYC was as "simple" as accel+turn=more power to outside wheel

FYI, heres an interesting thread on some of the units:

I have been long driving AYC replacement, the LSD 1.5way. The common AYC faulty code 82 and limited replacement here drive me crazy. So 1 fine day, went in track, instantly love the predictable LSD response... then borrowed another evo with AYC... driving style change tremendously. I can't predict when AYC will lock the rear and when it goes open... The 3 ACD constantly light up and I still keep the pump and AYC oil in reservoir tank.

Garage HRS does ACD tuning. So far that's the only shop I know of that messes with tuning the stock ACD computer.

^^ yeah i hate AYC. the thing i dont like about it is that i have no control on what happens.. i would like at least some kind of control hence hacking it.

as for removing it you need to dump the rear diff and axle's and replace it with a RS diff and axles or you can modify a Legnum rear diff with an aftermarket LSD and Legnum axles.

either way it aint cheap!!!!

AYC ecu re-programming will be easier for us to use, but it will be more trouble for the guys to create it....

IMHO i think replacing everything is not much trouble at all wouldnt take to long... just EXPENSIVE!!!

If, in a perfect world someone (like Teph) created a hacking programme for the AYC and let everyone here use it that would be awesome.... COME ON TEPH!!!!

Going full lock should help the fronts from breaking free from the rear.

Going full open will reduce traction but should be fairly easy on the rear end and TX case. However if you wheel hop its every bit as bad, or worse than any other option.

So it will be great to have the ability to flash the ACD for drag racers to make the drivetrain more reliable.

He shoot he scores. I think the stock ACD setup also makes the car less predictable in corners as it trys to drive for you. That and the EBD both messed me up when I tried to track my car the last time. So when I killed the ACD and went to the 04 RS case (more or less) and I had already removed the ABS fuses, imagine my surprise when my car goes from a plow happy street machine to almost too RWD feeling in corner entry. I will never go back to ACD even if it becomes hackable, at least in my own car.

I didn't know you had changed to rs diff. Any other feedback about the swap? How about launching?

Any ballpark figure on cost and weight saved?
I may want to do this one day.
