03 jdm evo 8 (car running rich after tbe)

Hey everyone,

I have 03 jdm evo 8 and recently installed custom 3inch tbe and since then my car been running very rich and have the engine light on so my question is what is the best thing for me to get the fuel economy back to normal or at least better???

On average i'm doing 270 to a tank where previously i could do easy 350.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Marek

Sounds like you have an O2 sensor CEL. The TBE will cause the fault, and your AFRs to go screwy.

You need a tune.

1st step - get a wideband and boost gauge ....
if you have that already you would then need to log your afr values (preferably with lean spool disabled - search lean spool on the forum for more advice)
from there u should look at making changes to your map incrementally...maybe even post up your logs here to get some advice from the more experienced tuners....

Do a search for O2 sensor spacer. These little items will be placed on the O2 sensor and then installed into the exhaust. It will give the rear O2 less reading and thus help to eliminate issues with aftermarket exhausts and cats.

Get a code reader and post up your code that is coming up causing the CEL.

If you don't have a rear O2 then the spacer isn't necessary.

Your front 02 sensor could very well be shot.

Double check to ensure the connection is good and tight.

I had an issue after putting in a O2 housing some time ago that I didn't have the sensor pluged in all the way....causing simular issues to yours.

I hate when people try to force you to get a boost gauge. If he plans on leaving the boost at whatever psi it's at now he doesn't NEED to get one. The wb02 gauge is what's important. Don't go sending this kid off to blow his motor.

guapoholic it's ok i think daymean ment to get those things if i'm gonna start to play with the tunning.

now i will try to check all the connections but one thing i have realised is that my o2 sensor cable is very strached as the o2 is in different location to the stock so the connection problem could be the case.

Still i will get my wbo2 in place this week and will post all the logs i'll get.

Will deleting the cel error help with anything or not really?

Deleting the CEL won't do anything. It is a stored error that the ECU logged. Clearing the code will remove the light, but the fault may remain and the CEL will come back.

I would like to know what the code is for the error. We can then work toward a fix.
