I did the 1g Eprom thing for a long time. My car was dialed on my old eprom maftpro SD setup. I was very hesitant to switch to the evo ecu. The hardest thing for me is/was the learning curve to get up to speed with all the roms, and the patches for this and that, that are out there for the evo ecu. Im still learning, my car is far from hauling *****, and i sold all my eprom maftpro stuff. But im way happier. Newer hardware and software thats still being developed and supported. Everything i was doing with my old setup with the eprom and maft, the evo ecu will do on its own. Lets be honest, the DSM's world is slowly getting left behind.

My only issue right now is evoscan wont always pulls my DTC's its says "no response from ecu" and after letting the car sit for 2 weeks with the battery disconnected i get this lean condition while cruising thats sorta intermitten. Dont know if i have a bad injector, or if maybe i need to reflash the rom. Other than that the car fired right up, idled and drove great. It could be an issue with the cold up here though, its been in the 30's.

Great info there. I need to start getting into tuning once I get my Laser back up and running. I'm still planning the Evo ECU swap, but wouldn't mind going with an AEM if I can find one cheap enough and get rid of the Evo ECU along the way to offset the cost. The Evo ECU is great and is far more advanced than I believe EPROM stuff will ever be, but I like the fact than an AEM ECU can do nitrous control, boost by gear and a few other things. Haven't read much lately, but I don't think the Evo ECU is capable of that stuff...at least not yet. If so, then like I said, I haven't been reading up on it much lately. Otherwise, from what all I went through with my Evo on the stock ECU, it's awesome for tunability and adjustability!

Evo ecu can do boost by gear. Not sure about nitrous control, depends on what outputs you are using currently. Im sure you could configure the IC sprayer output for nitrous control, if its not being done already.

As far as AEM's go, my past experience with them wasnt great. Too buggy atleast when it came to DSM's. Things may be different now.

I think the Series 2 AEM has gotten rid of a lot of the bugs of the 1st generation.

I will look into that for the I/C sprayer. Didn't think about that since I didn't have it on my Evo 9. Totally forgot about it!

What do we know about automatics and the evo8 ecu?

I run an evo8 ecu in my automatic 2g, and I even have posts in this thread stating that I was sure it was okay but someone replied at one point saying that the 1g tcu was more dependent on the ecu than the 2g tcu so I wondered if there was any clarification or further information involved in that.

I'm definitely leaning this way. Jackal seems kind of nice for someone that doesn't already have experience with the evo8 ecu and the cable but I just can't get into the idea of running a system that only recently decided it was necessary to get rid of a palm pilot for logging.

Well since the only sensor change is the knock sensor, if the tcu is looking for speed, rpm, or tps those signals will be the same. The only pin that different on the ecu (1g) between manual and auto is the park neutral, which the manual guys use for the two step. Not too familiar with the tcu and autos though.

It's not easy, but you can make your own. I have yet to test mine, but I made my own. Just went to a junk yard and found all the plugs I needed and went to work with it.

hey guys i have a few questions.

1) is it possible to run the evo ecu on a gm maf with MAFT. if not how should i run the gm MAF

2) is there somewhere i can learn about the different roms and patches, because searching the site i become overwhelmed and reading the different post from you guys i completely get lost and feel like your speaking a different language

3) is there a DIY or a step by step yet on doing this conversion?

I have tuned an evo8 ECU swapped car that ran the MAFT Pro for the Evo and it was pretty easy to dial-in.

The evo8 ECU can definitely do ECU Controlled Boost per gear with ease and you can use the IC Sprayer output and settings to activate anything really. Years ago I was using it to activate my meth kit at a specific engine load with flawless reliability.

Was there ever a fix for the crank circuit code and cas code? I just installed the ecu in my car and it is throwing those two codes. Also i was able to open the ecu when I first put it in the car but now I can't. I tried using active matrix unlocker with ecuflash version 1.28 and still nothing. Ecuflash is giving a error code and wont let me get in.
