That is not what I meant at all there are a good many guys on this board that are very knowledgable about many platforms then their are those that think they are. I was trying to help a fellow 3g owner out as I have done about 10x more to this platform than anyone on this board I have hours of logs and dyno runs with this and have worked with several very good tuners on my car from the sohc bolt on turbo like he has, to the fully modded dohc with a Quaiffe LSD like I have now. My 3g makes 330 wtq at 3500 rpms plenty of power for a fwd on pump gas. I could go alot higher on race gas but the trans just won't hold up I have broken it 5 times now. Soon it's getting an upgraded input shaft from shep like my 2g.

Regardless of engine type the basics of tuning a car are relatively the same. I don't agree with that timing map you posted. Either it works and your missing all kinds of timing down low or it never really hits those cells to begin with.

Before you get off on saying how it works I'll just point out that because it works does not make it correct.

He was referring to your suggested map with untuned blocks in the highlighted areas that you posted as a proper timing map for the OP's setup. Which is not good if you spool as quickly as you claimed.

Thats not the map from my car but another 3g with sohc. I saw that too doesn't anyone remember the block of 8's we used to see... I was trying to give him a good point to start at with something a bit closer than a stock evo rom. But all you guys want to do is talk people down instead of helping him.

Here's what I'm running right now It's not perfect but it doesn't knock and has 60k miles on the engine.

Second, why offer someone a map with an obvious issue that you claim you were aware of? Way to help a 3G brother out. At least now you decided to give him a peek at a tuned map from your car which will get him in the ballpark hopefully.

We're all about helping, it was you who stuck his check out like you were the god of all turbo'd 3G's and we wouldn't be any help to him. We all want to help the OP if we can, so lets move on and get back on topic please before a mod needs to come close or clean up this thread.

I guess if he has an evo head evo 272's 8.5:1 compression 1000cc injectors, intake, 3" piping, 3" exhaust then that last map might help... Funny I never got any help at all from you guys when I asked...

ok everyone claim down. Actualy my car seems to like more advanced timing than a stock evo from 120-160 an a little lower from 50-90. Not every cell was advanced or retarded it was more about the transition. Any more than a 2 jump over 100 caused knock. idk its pulling a lot harder and evoscan says im goos knock wise. I peak load at 160 cell. I would post up the map but i dont know how.

Yeah, keeping the timing jumps between cells to less than 3 will keep the knock away usually. the Evo ECU doesn't like making drastic timing changes too quickly. Since you are running such low loads, you could rescale the load column up to 180 for greater resolution. I believe the 'How to Tune an Evo' thread explains how to do that, haven't read it in a while. Since you plan on going to the 16G soon, it'd probably be best to wait and see where your peak load falls with that turbo though.

Considering that was back in 2006 according to your post record which is before the join date of probably many here it stands to reason that the general mood of the forum could have changed in the last 3 or so years since you asked.

use the print screen button on your computer than "paste" the image into either ms paint or your photo editor of choice. Crop then adjust size to something fairly small say 500px by whatever and save as a jpeg.

You can then add the attachment via the attach files button near the bottom of the screen, using the advanced post features.

+1 for both comments. We're glad you're making some nice headway with your tune though Keep it safe on the roads and keep the Evil Knievel stories off the boards and we'll all be good
