Low Load Knock Help
Low Load Knock Help
Hey Guys,
Ive got an issue where i get low load knock.
Ive got Tephra Rom set to flash cel at 4 counts of knock and i have noticed it does it a little down low.
If i do a full pull there is no knock during a power run.
Attached is a log, ive chopped the log up to bring everything close together, so if you noticed RPM increments are all over the place thats why.
Below is a link to my current timing map also.

Cheers guys

Ok more to this issue,
If im cruising around then punch it, the my CEL flashes indicating knock between 3000-4500ish, but if i slow back down i can then do another 3-4 back to back runs and it doesnt happen.
Im thinking about lowering my timing across the cruise to light load into higher load cells, the transition doesnt look real smooth.
My fuel is ok, 12.5 coming onto boost to 11.5 during the whole pull, so i dont think it has anything to do with fuel.
Any input is greatly appreciated

I also run logs and sometimes I get knock and sometimes I don't you need to smooth the cells still I would try to reduce 1 of timing and like you said try to smooth the cells so timing does not jump from high advance to very low advance.
I had this exact same problem. I tried lowering the ignition advance and it made it worse. My RPM range was 2750-3500 I'd get 5-7 counts of knock randomly when under light load. It was frustrating. Under a full load WOT pull I was knock free.
I tried lowering my ignition advance and it got worse. Lowered it 1deg and knock went up in that cell 3 counts. Lowered more and it went up again.
I started reading on the forum and found a lot of people had been working on map smoothing and found they got better drivability in light load/cruising situations. I ran a 3d map of my ignition map and it looked horrible. After I put a weighted average smoothing algorithim on my ignition table I not only got better driability but almost all might light load knock went away!
Now I see a 1-2 count of knock in my trouble spot but not much more. I spool up about 1-200rpm quicker, have better off boost response, and my car makes hippies smile (ok, not the last one but you get the point). You can find my post on "Big maps are too small... (smoothing your maps)" to see what I did.

Now as someone else has posted in your thread, are you going to post the your map translator with the smoothing in it?

Ok so a little update,
I smoothed out the map the best i could, tried it and it still showed knock down low.
I removed some timing, and still it showed down low knock
I added fuel still the same
Weird thing is i can only repeat it if i let the revs go right down then punch it, cel will flash indicating knock, i can then do it back to back with nothing, wait a little bit and it will do it again.
Also if i plug evoscan into the computer and free rev the engine like give it a quick stab up to say 4k rpm it shows knock values

Thats what i was thinking, unfortunately i dont have any,
I just took it out then and it didnt flash the cel at all, really being weird.
My Tacxtrix cable isnt working the best at the moment so i cant log properly it keeps disconnecting
