Check out my timing Map

Hey Guys,

Check out my timing map and see what you think.

Boost is about 20psi pike dropping to redline.

Problem i have is in first or second gear and i punch it from about 2500 i get knock counts, if i do the same pull in 3rd or higher from 2500 i dont.

Also its not every time this happens in first or second maybe every other time.

Ive really tried taking timing out of the trouble area with no change, same issue.

Fuel is 98oct here in AUS.

how much timing did you pull out and what load are you seeing on the pull. at least with that info i think someone can chime in.

I think a log would help a lot more than a timing map, as we have no way of even knowing where you are on the map.

Ill get some logs done, i was supposed to do it over the weekend but we have had bad weather here and its a little sketchy with wheel spin.

But i can tell you, in first or second gear i get knock between say 2250-3500 from 110 load, after 3500 nothing.

If i do the same pull in 3rd,4th or 5th i dont get any knock from 110load.

Also it doesnt happen every time, about every other time.

Ill do my best to get some logs tonight and post them up, ill post a first gear log followed by a 3rd gear pull.

Thanks guys

Actually this time i reduced timing as per the logs, so where it was getting 7 counts i took 7degrees out ran another log and the knock where it was 7 counts went down to 4

Does this sound about right should i just keep going until its all gone?

Honestly, I would pretty much start over with your entire timing map and take one of the published starting points posted on this site. That said, if you want to try adjusting yours :

(1) take values in the column 140 load from 2500 - 11000 and copy those values in the 100 load column

(2) then smooth from 100 to 350 (I doubt you ever come close to 350), but you should not need to go negative (from your logs it looks like you hit 240 peak, so maybe rescale to 300....)

(3) try to limit your cell to cell changes to no more than 3 degrees (ideally 2 or less) in the sensitive areas

(4) after you do that, I think you'll be able to lean up your AFRs in the spooling up area

Good luck

Ok so i tried what was suggested above and it made it a whole lot worse.

See my adjusted Timing map attached and the log for it

It seems my first timing map was better

Now you have smoothed out, I suggest you start to retune. Start pulling timing out where you are knocking.

Remember, you need to keep it smooth.

Your original timing map was not smooth. It was all over the place. Changes in timing were too radical.

Just a suggestion, you are running big maps so why not take advantage of the extra resolution available to you ie. you are hitting around 250 load max so scale to 270 load or similar, also check your timing its not very smooth at all especially from 240 load upwards

See my timing map for example
