n00b SD tuning questions

From what I gather, SD tuning allows me to eliminate my MAF which apparently is a restriction when going for big HP number and can be done with a stock ECU. I'd like to know:

Am I wrong?
How to go about doing it?
Can it be done on TephraMod 90550001 rom?

What are your goals with the car? The MAF has shown it can support over 600whp on numerous occasions. It is less a restriction than you might think.

I'm hoping to do 500+ hp but that's not really why I want to by-pass it. I have read that using a metal turbo suction pipe messes with the MAF reading which is exactly what I'll be using on my new build. Also I just want to learn about it.

SD is usually done for driveability, not hp. All you need to know about getting it setup is in this thread, with links there for the others, but doesnt look like your rom is supported in the tephra v7 patches.

I was about to say this +1

I you dont upgrade in terms for more power but just the smoothness that SD brings. Im in the process of converting now I had a 94170008 rom and converted to a 9653 rom with SD patches

That'd be perfect since I want a daily driver but my ecu won't support it.

Just an update I found a TephraMod 5.10 tweaked for SD

http://www.geekmapped.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1178

From what i read i'll have to up my stock MAP to something that reads 3+ bars (JDM EVO 9 , X or Omin) and an air temp sensor. That's a stretch for me right now but it's look like something worth pursuing on my DD. Maybe next year when I'm doing some head work.
