Question Help with map on new car.

My roommate just bought an 03 evo 8. Its a real nice car im impressed. I know the motor has a td05 16g, zetronix wideband, map, egt combo, Im about 90% sure the head is done wtih atleast 280 cams it doesnt like to idle below 1000 or 1050. It also has a large front mount intercooler and rc740 injectors. It also has the typical 3" turbo back exhaust. The only problem wtih the car is that it bucks and hits either fuel cut or boost cut when you stomp it or get on it hard. I have done some logging and figured out the load was to high for what was set in the boost cut area and modified everything acordingly. I tune subaru's and honda's and prefer using megasquirt or something SD or true load based; anyway, what i was trying to say is that i do know some tuning and i am trying to figure out the evo ecu. Any help would be greatly appreciated as i am trying to learn and not just get a handout. thought that helps alot. i attached the rom and the xml for the ecu since it is running fuel cut load x2 and 2byte mod. Thank you for your time. If you need a log let me know. i know its the 3000 to 4000 rpm area. It runs around 22lbs of boost wtih a aftermarket 3 port ebcs that im assuming is a gm plug with 1 port on 1 end and 2 ports on the other end.

here is the link to the files because the site wont let me upload

well anything past 100kpa is boost so look at 100kpa as 0psi. you tune the car based off of the load / cells it hits. dont just tune 1 cell at a time tho tune 5-6 cells at once from left to right, etc..

make sure the fuel trims are within proper scaling. i looked over the rom it seemed ok to me. the timing looks SAFE (depending what load the cars hitting) and the fuel map looks done right. You can convert his car to run SD with the stock ecu if you do some digging on this forum.

i would love to run SD but i want the car to run correctly first. the only thing i dont like is the -6 timing. i didnt think the load would be that high that low in the rpm range. it is a 16g turbo though with what im thinking is a ported big cammed head that flows really well. we figured out the car came from so-cal and judging by what was done to it and how it was put together it looks like it was a track car for awhile.

here is a sample of the knock i get.

holy crap thats a whole lot of knock!! you most defiantly need to richen those areas up! you should be at least in the mid 11's at 24psi if not low 11's... okay i just looked at your map and you need to make a few changes. first you are defiantly hitting boost cut. your boost limit is way to low and your rpm table is all screwed up. change the boost limit to 319% all the way down. in your timing map in the blocks of 0-20 and 500-1250 rpm try changing it to 12-13*. get rid of that boost enhancement adv/ret map 2 (anti lag) under timing in ecuflash. To help idle, in the desired idle rpm-Neutral change to (very top --> -32) -8 7 20 34 50 77 (82<---) very bottom) celsius then 1040 for the 77 and 82 block. then in the boost desired engine load #1 from 500-4000 rpm change to 147% -4500-7000 change to 160%. this should be a good starting point...let me know how it goes and if you have any more questions just post or pm me hope this helps. also when you make all the changes do another 3rd gear pull and post up the logs.

+1 on the boost cut. Raise the boost limit.

+1 on the injector scaling/latency adjustment. Your mid fuel trim is a little high.

The boost enhancement tables were never properly labeled. The values in that table are well below the point of boost. Don't worry about them.

The fuel cut table is set right for the load that you are hitting. It allows for a small margin of safety. I would leave it alone.

As for idle, as stated above you could add a couple degrees of timing in the idle regions. It will most likely tame the lope a little. A value around 11 should suffice. Make the low octane and the high octane timing tables the same in the idle area.....helps make idle more stable.

Before making changes to the idle tables...try just raising the timing as I just stated. If the car is still loping hard, then raise the desired idle rpm a little as stated above.

The tune itself is, as stated above, done pretty well. There is a few little things here and there that could be cleaned up, but it won't really solve your issue.

I would just disable Lean Spool via Periphery FBA bit 0. Change it to =1. Your condition should greatly improve.

Once you get the car to make consistent pulls (as I am certain you are not getting the same thing in every pull because of lean spool) then you can post up a log of a pull from 2500 out to redline. We can then tweek from there.

Hope this helps.

Paul

ok. here is what i did. it is now running a tephra v7 mod with big maps and what not. it runs like a dream, im just getting alittle lean knock ( 10 counts most) between 0 and 5 psi. other than that im just working on the heavy rpm drop when you put in the clutch. down to 400 rpm or so then back to 1000 for idle. if anyone would like i can post my current map and a 2nd gear through 5th gear WOT pull i made last night to log the knock in the bottom end of the map. thank you for all the help.

Try turning off LS like I said before....then go do a few pulls and report back.

Tip in is where you are having the issue. It is common in 8s. Do the LS thing and we can work from there.

i just opened my tephra map to check on lean spool and it says 1 is enable and 0 is disable. i currently have it set at 0, so lean spool should be off. so the log i have from last night shouldnt have lean spool turned on.

The ROM you posted is not a Tephra modded rom. That is why I said what I did about lean spool.

same screen name at g mail dot com

Tip in is an easy fix as the knock is mostly likely phantom knock.

yep sorry. i have been out of town on business for a week or so. i got it tuned with the tephra mod. once i switched it got rid of 90% of my issues. it took a couple days of logging and i have it pretty well ironed out. its steady at about 17 psi and you can floor it and it builds nice. no knock at all anymore. thank you to everyone that helped, i have learned an immense amount about how the evo computer works. im ordering a omni power 4bar so i can go SD here in the next couple weeks now that i have it tuned with tephra. once again thank you to all, without this site it would have taken forever to get all the bugs ironed out.
