Question 03 EVO 8: SD tuning problems / ROM problems

Just picked up a BONE STOCK 2003 EVO 8

Stock ROM: 94170008

Car is stock. Runs fine. I tried tephra's V7 and phenom SD ROM. But every ROM that has SD that I flash, the vehicle will not run. It just spins. When I flash the stock ROM back in the vehicle fires right up.

I have copied the immobilizer code from my stock ROM and my tables from my stock ROM onto the new ROM but still a no go.

I do not know what is going on.

I do know that. But the car just spins and does not even catch. No matter what I do to the SD tables. I followed a variety of different write-ups and how-to's and it still doesnt want to kick over.

to make sure its not the immob, just disable it in the peripheries. it should at least fire with a default sd rom on a stock car.

you say bone stock...you have all the necessary hardware, right? map sensor, temp sensor...

I would like to use the factory sensors.

I plan on keeping everything below 22psi.

Cant use the factory sensors....There is your problem. The stock MDP is only 1 bar, meaning it only measures -14.7-0 (or 1 or so) psi. And there is no factory IAT.

Upgrade your map sensor and decide if you want to use real IAT or fake it with the fuel temp sensor.

Might want to follow a variety of different write-ups and how-to's and see it if wants to kick over then....

Bone stock meaning you are trying to flash a SD ROM on a car that doesn't have SD equipment and wondering why it isn't running correctly?

Is this a trick question?

Its not and the people that say otherwise dont understand why not.

Bryan meant if it doesnt even have a 3 or 4 bar in it, it will think its in boost during cranking and flood out. All it sees is a 0-5v signal and its trying to make sense of the voltage. This sensor (MDP) is 4.6v or so at 0" of vacuum where a 4 bar is 35psi.

I'm with Aaron. I almost never use an IAT sensor anymore. The fuel temp sensor has done well for me so far.

There is an entire thread of the advantages and disadvantages of the IAT. If we had a hook to use it above a certain hz level or boost level then maybe. Standalones normally do that so it doesnt affect fueling and ignition in stop and go traffic or any situation where its gotten REALLY heatsoaked for no reason.

The way the fuel temp works matches factory which has provisions for fueling enrichment and timing retard vs inlet temp (closer to what fuel temp is anyway) without affecting low speed driving.

In the end its just a value that the ECU sees, and the tune ends up compensating for the fact that it isnt "real". Ran fuel temp until I got a chance to install all my "non-maf" equipment. It did follow the same basic curve. I havent had any heat soak issues (alum piping with iat 2-3" before TB), or else Id go back to the fuel temp sensor.
