V7 E85 starting table Q's: 96532706

Hi Guys,

Just a quick q, im trying to find out which table I should be playing with in V7 96532706 to control the cold start and warm start fueling? FYI im on E85

Problems:

1) Car starts first go when cold, however needs a little more fuel as it coughs around for 5 sec till it gets enough fuel and idles fine

2) Hard to start when warm. Starts around 10sec into cranking with foot on pedal opening up throttle slightly

Current tables in ROM:

Tables under 'Main Map'
- Cranking Primer Initial Pulse

Tables under 'Global Fuel Settings - Startup'
- Initial Cranking IPW vs Coolant Temp
- Cranking IPW Compensation vs Time
- Post Cranking Transient Enrichment vs Coolant Temp #1
- Post Cranking Transient Enrichment vs Coolant Temp #2
- Start IPW latency mcsec
- IPW comp starting

If anyone could let me know what table I should be using to fine tune these issues, that would be great.

Cheers!

1) Increase Post Cranking Transient Enrichment vs Coolant Temp #1 and #2 in the temperature zone where you start up.

2) Did you change your injectors for E85? If so you should multiply all values in the Initial Cranking IPW vs Cooolant Temp table by (old injector size/new injector size) * 1.3

If this doesn't work, Log IDC, Coolant temp, Initial Cranking IPW vs Cooolant temp, and WBO2 (actual AFR) to determine if you are too rich or too lean during warm cranking. It sounds like you may be too rich if you have to open the throttle slightly. Reduce (go leaner) or increase (go richer) the values in the right side of the Initial Cranking IPW vs Coolant table at the Coolant temp for warm start.

Let us know how this works out.

1) Adjusted this a little last night and cold start this morning was better but not perfect. I have added some more fuel in the same cell values to hopefully fix this

2) I did change the injectors. Im running FIC 950's. I havent touched this part of the table yet as I will get 1) sorted first before 2). Im not too sure what the original values are but I will probably need to do method number 2. Is it only the Initial Cranking IPW vs Cooolant Temp table I need to modify? Im assuming just the cells which the temperature corresponds too?

I adjusted all values in the Initial Cranking IPW vs. Coolant Temp table using the formula I posted. If you don't you'll run rich enough to flood your plugs during startup. E85 doesn't atomize as well as regular gas at lower temps so you actually need to increase the values at lower temps to compensate after applying the formula. Here is the original V7 96530706 table for reference.

FWIW I also applied the formula to adjust values for E85 in the Post Cranking Transient Enrichment vs Coolant Temp #1 and #2

Ive just got back from the festive season so theres been a little delay in response and neglect on the Evo but going back to hopefully sorting the starting this week.

Thanks for posting the original table values up! I applied the formula and loaded in the new values for Initial Cranking IPW vs. Coolant Temp table so will test this later on today.

FYI, here was the values I had in my ROM vs the new value using the applied formula and original table you posted on my 950cc injectors. Its definitely added more when cold and removed more where warm so hopefully this will do the trick.

Current Value / New Value
117 / 163.5
81 / 109.0
52.2 / 66.2
46.8 / 55.9
38.7 / 47.6
18.9 / 16.6
11.7 / 10.3
6.3 / 6.2
5.4 / 4.1
4.5 / 2.8
3.6 / 2.8

Any chance you have the original table values for Post Cranking Transient Enrichment vs Coolant Temp #1 and #2 ?

Ive done some testing and cold start seems good. Warm start is almost there

I think if I adjusted the Post Cranking Transient Enrichment vs Coolant Temp #1 and #2 based on the same formula, I think it will be sweet.

Im having the same problems but it was after going from HKS 272 to GSC S2 cams. Im using E85 and my car started perfect at all times before the new cams. Only change was the cams. Same fuel and injectors. Rom id 96530706. So Im assuming since the cams are letting more air in I need to add fuel to starting tables? If so do all of them need to be tweaked?

Also whats the difference between the main map fuel settings "cranking primer initial pulse" and global fuel settings "initial cranking ipw vs coolant temp"?
