Broken 1.3U Cable
What makes you think this is a matter of "taking care of them"? I opened mine up and saw no visible signs of damage, no split wires, etc. It's something internal. My cable has always stayed in my glovebox when not in use.
When I replaced the cable on mine it wasn’t because the wires came loose at the board but because the wires broke inside the shielding where the cable came out of the housing...
You got me excited and gave me false hope, haha. I ohm tested from the usb connector to the board and all 4 have connectivity so it isn't the wire.

Can someone continue the other two wires row? There is a green and a black. I just opened mine and I see exactly this

i am willing to bet this is your problem, if you look at the red and white wire in the kinda top left, there are supposed to be 2 more wires under them. You have to be REAL gentle disconnecting these things from the ODB2 port and do NOT pull on the cable
i popped mine open, unsoldered the old cable and resoldered an old black berry usb cable inplace of the old one and superglued the cable to the housing with a little extra slack inside
