Anyone else thought of fix-mounting the unit using a double din panel? I plan to try that when the unit arrives.

Just a couple questions which may have already been answered in this thread.

- Could the cable supplied be used to tune the car?
- Silly question, but how would I be able to connect this unit up to the ECU. I've searched these forums but haven't been able to find a guide on where the cable should be connected. Images would be helpful.
- (depending on previous question) What's the easiest way to get the cable connected?

For the time-being, I will only use the system to log metrics from my vehicle.

Hi, as far as I understand it the DA cable supplied is for Datalogging for the Android tablet only.

If you want to flash the ECU you will need another cable (Openport 2.0) is what I use. It is best to get it from Tactrix website, mine took about 3 days to get from San Fran to Sydney. I use ECUFlash to tune.

The Evodroid DA cable connects to the OBD port under the steering wheel. I suspect you will only need to do this - unless you want to log boost from a MAP sensor or log from a wideband sensor etc, in which case you connect to the Evodroid cable.

 

It is also cheaper to get direct from Tactrix - you can get them on eBay for double the price!!

 

Probably should have researched a little more before you ordered... But I tried answering the questions.

I was after something to give me a log of my car's metrics as a starter; no need to tune yet.

I'm still new to the Evo and again I appreciate your patience with me. Just another question; if I connect to the OBD port, will I get a boost reading too?

With my question about the easiest way to connect, now that I know it's under the steering wheel, I just need to find a way to neatly connect it.

 

Could you record the gauges so that you can overlay it on other video?

 

From Evoscan you can get a right angle extension cable that will make it neater.
As for logging boost, there are two ways.

1. Get a 3 bar MAP sensor and mod the ECU to log boost.
2. Get an external 3 bar MAP sensor and wire this into the Evodroid cable.

I will be attempting to wire an external MAP sensor to log boost when mine arrives.

 

Heres a plan, hopefully this will work. Galaxy S3, running Screencast, have Evoscan not save to file, and run gauges. Record gauges and also use the GoPro app to start my cameras. With any luck I'll have a video of my gauges, not too far out of sync with my GoPro's, and can overlay the gauge video over the GoPro footage. As soon as the cable and software are available, I'll give this a try as long as this is not shot down.

Is there an option / android app to do a screen capture to video? I'm not an Android person so have no idea..

 

Yea, found Screen cast will do it, just need to root my phone. I may try it out using my laptop, get Camtasia or something to capture the gauges and have a play overlaying them.

 

Still no word on shipping date. I can only assume that it will now be after Christmas
