I stuck with the stock intake manifold and throttle body. It definitely held me back quite a bit upstairs. I am not unhappy with the peak numbers, but dropping 100 HP by redline is just completely unnecessary. I will be back on the dyno in a few weeks with a ported stock manifold in an attempt to fix that. As far as the spoolup is concerned, I think that we can bench race this topic all day, but the reality on the street is something different. By "softening the blow" as E spec described it, the car has good traction. Sure we could have ramped up the timing down low and made more HP and torque at the lower rpm range, but what good is that when it simply translates to wheel spin? I am not a drag racer nor am I running drag radials. I do a lot of road course events and the last thing that you want is all 4 tires breaking loose coming out of a turn. As usual, Erkel gave me exactly what I wanted. A tune tailored to my type of driving. I have worked with most of the big name tuners in the Northeast over the last 6 years and no one has ever come close in terms of service, communication, and attention to detail. Also big thanks to Toplevel for putting together a killer engine.
I applaud your post ,but at this power level and combo the only thing that gonna wake up the top and to continue to climb is a (magnus v5,di which is hands down the best manifold,or ams f1 manifold)also with a combo bigger to body.

Do you have any engine bay pics? Is this a FF turbo kit?

Unfortunatly there is a budget to contend with. The buschur ported manifold should help a lot even if it would not make the most power possible

I understand the money situation that's why my car is in the garage waiting for parts to be paid for..As for the buschur ported manifold don't expect huge gains maybe 20 whp if that..If I was you I would surf the used section till you find a used one for a good deal and scoop it up either way you have a nice combo..

UPDATE. 7.5 YEARS LATER!!!

Unfortunately, the dyno graph is no longer on page one. To everyone who questioned why I was giving up so much with a soft tune and stock intake and mildish cams ... The answer comes with the longevity I am experiencing. Seven and a half years later with countless street miles and many track days, the engine keeps ticking and does not miss a beat. I still love this turbo, the 2.4 engine and the "soft tune" . I had a plan for longevity and performance for road racing. The car runs like stock, ac blows cold and it still kicks ***. I will be back on the dyno in the spring for a refresh and maybe turn it up on e85 this time.

Did you keep your oil squirters? The only thing that I don' t like about the 2.4 is the rod stroke ratio but kudos to your reliability with your car!

If I remember correctly the 4g64 did not have squirters

I maintain and take good care of my car, but I also beat it like a redheaded step child and she keeps coming back for more. I love this setup!

Cool to hear the engine has held up this long!
32 psi on 93 for road racing, I would not describe this as "mild"!! What cooling mods have you done?

Just a Koyo radiator and a really old school (2005) FMIC from Turbo XS (probably totally inefficient by today's standards)Truth be told, I turn it down to 25 most of the time. I am not a pro driver and the car has more talent than I do. I would rather push the car near its limit than the car push me towards its. When you kid yourself that you can harness close to 600 whp on a road course, you are in for an expensive awakening.

Great followup here, its not everyday you here about the longevity of built evos with a 2.4. Inspiring to say the least. More proof that oil squirters are not needed.

Damn that's a mighty healthy built engine. 7-8 years later and still going strong. Thumbs up.

What is the situation with your intake manifold and throttle body? Did you stick to ported or did you go aftermarket? What were your gains? I have a 2.4LR with a 3076 stock frame upgrade for road course. I am debating whether I NEED to upgrade to an aftermarket one...Thanks man and glad to see her going strong!

Thank you for updating the thread. Great to see a 2.4L can last a long time when built and tuned properly .
