Thats a northern thing right? If i spend more then a day in NY or in even Toronto with a car from the south I always get stopped for that.

I don't know, yeah maybe a northern thing, a bllu**** thing more like it. It really pisses me off. Two years ago the state figured out they could eliminate the front plates and generate a few million dollars extra per year by doing so, the law was passed to do away with the plates. At the last minute the highway patrol was somehow able to have it overturned. Hey, at least we live in a free country......

Free for the most part, try getting pulled over having a stock Evo, and then being told you have an "illegal aftermarket spoiler...".Only in Cali can you get that type of love...

Anyway, it's changed and the car is absolutely a complete night and day difference in how the clutch engages and feels, incredible.

I was busy all day, had to tune Eric's car (684 whp at 40 psi) and do some misc stuff around the shop. About the time I was ready to go drive the car finally my son was due to get off the bus. He's been driving me nuts to ride in it. He gets off the bus, we pile in and I try to set up my iphone in the mount to take some video. The mount won't work, so I have to find another way to set it up.

We head out of town, drive a few miles, I hit a few hard corners to see how the suspension changes feel. Everything feels great. We turn onto "rubber road" for the really old timers (may not even be any on here) it's a road we use to street race on at the shootouts. I just barely hit the gas, maybe 1/4 throttle, as soon as the boost hits/instantly, I shift to 2nd then 3rd and look at my son and say, "That's only about 1/4 throttle" and I hit it full in 4th for second. Since I can't discuss illegal speeds you will have to use your imagination. We get to the next stop sign and he asks, "What happens if you floor it? Does it spin?" I say, "You'll see here in one second." I get straight in the road at about 25 mph and nail it, 1st gear is USELESS, shift to 2nd, just about as USELESS, shift to third and the car is still moving all over, throw it into 4th for about 1 second and lift. It is absolutely the most amazing EVO I have ever driven or we have ever built. I can not get over the response and torque of this combination.

Cruising along about 55 mph I was just thinking of stabbing it again and I see what looks like a trooper, sure enough, no problem, I'm going the speed limit and he goes right by. He must have gone close to a 1/2 mile the other direction and I see him turn around to come back.

I pull over, hand him my license and permit. He asks about my front plate and mentions the car is loud. I tell him the car is no longer made and there is no way I'm putting holes in the front fascia of the car for a plate. He asks if I can zip tie it, I tell him yes but I'd look like an idiot and wasn't doing that either. He goes back and returns with a warning. He then says, "I see you have it tuned up a bit and I imagine that's why it's a little loud, does it really run 9's? I see the sticker on your back window." I say, "Yes it does, makes over 700 whp and ran 9.0 at 159 mph." He says, "Wow that is amazing, do you own Buschur's here in town?" I say, "Yes." SOOOOO, do you wanna me my buddy or give me a warning ticket for some bull**** law that was voted out and then overturned by the OSP is all I could think.

I ever mention my dislike for the police? I know it's just a warning and he was friendly but for goodness sakes, it's a stupid law to begin with. How about, "Nice car, you have no points, you aren't a criminal, you had both hands on the wheel and your license and permit ready, you are fine gentlemen, have a nice day."

So it begins, it won't be the last time I'm pulled over this year cause I'm gonna enjoy this sucker this year! If he had been 2 minutes earlier he could have given me a real ticket!! hahaaha
hahah...great story...Glad you got to finally drive it with your son! NJ is the same way with these stupid front plates...I got pulled over a couple times for no front plate on my 97 GSX. I live in NJ again but my car is registered in South Carolina now...No front plates, no state inspection... I've been pulled over a couple times since I moved back...I always get asked if I have drugs or weapons in the car and I am told that they pull me over for dark tint, tinted license plate cover, loud exhaust, etc, etc...Oh wait, thats right, you just wasted your time and my time Mr. police officer because you can't give me any tickets...No points on my license either!

ILLEGAL SPOILER?? WTF. Beyond the fact that its stock... How is a spoiler illegal? People keep telling me I would enjoy Cali, but I think I would lose my gd mind there.

hahah illegal spoiler is nothing new...I was pulled over by an NJ cop once that told me that my spoiler was an obstruction of view. I told him he could tell Mitsubishi that since it came on the car from the factory...

My son hold on?! haha No way, he usually holds the laptop for me while I'm tuning! haha He's calm as can be. He said it's faster now than ever and he's got a good feel for it, surprises me sometimes. I've got him racing karts, he loves it.

Dave, the car sounds like a beast. I only wish I could experience how this car feels.

Good work to say the least. I'm glad you pulled through and got it running in tip top shape

You better believe it, they look for any reason to pull an import car over. And sweet good let something in your engine bay not look stock, they will almost not let you drive off in it.

Another one here for Cali try getting pulled over having them open the hood and tell me my red valve cover is aftermarket and ilegal... This state is sad sometimes.
