FP Zero/Zephyr Dyno Results Thread
As much as this would be very nice if it were true, that is not the case with the Zephyr and Zero. On FP's website both turbos lack the MHI turbine housing option which in turn requires that the SS housing to be utilized, which means you'll need a new O2 housing / downpipe combination. I think it was Fathouse Fabrications that made one already.. Or was it Toxicfab.. Or JDL... Or Sheepy....
Sounds like a T3 option would be cheaper in the long run. Until these new turbos become available as used, anyway.
Still look great and I'm curious to see the power output.

Funny you mention that, was just pricing that out because i was up in the air, If the turbo were 1800 or so, it would be beneficial to go with it, but Its too expensive, then you gotta buy a wastegate, downpipe, dumptube, custom oil lines probably unless the new cartridge no longer needs that. Pulled this from the MAP site, prices could vary of course, but you get the picture. Then the T3 offers flexibilty because a lot of times people get use to the power and want more. 1 Thing for sure, the FP turbo is sexy.

The draw to FP, for me, was being stock frame so they drop right in. That and pass smog (I'm in CA). I'm trying to figure out the market for these new turbos. They are no longer stock framed and cost more than a T3/T04. Confused.
I have heard that FP's stainless housing is going to be allowed in the stock appearing class at The Shootout next year. I kind of wish they would have kept it that you have to run the MHI housing. Before too long there will be no stock appearing class
If you buy the turbo you get the tial waste gate for only 100 bucks the turbo comes with the feed line and for coolant lines you use all your stock parts so really at the end up the day all you need extra is the intake and the downpipe and dump tube only reason why this turbo is better cause it spools faster then a t3 setup I was talking to the guys that did testing with it and it's not that much different from the fp black spool but I'll put that to the test my self soon
also, aren't all the o2/downpipe/dump tube options for the FP unit really expensive right now? not like you can run out and grab a Megan any more.
i do not thing these should be allowed in any stock turbo or stock-turbo-appearing class. that is silly. it's nothing like stock LOL
i would think maybe FP went this route because it's not like they will be able to find MHI housings forever?

Our turbo is $2500 you can add an MV-S to the turbo for $100 at time of order and that price includes the oil line. Since it's factory frame you can reuse your water lines and oil return line. So you will need an intake pipe you can buy ours for $129 bringing the price up to $2729.
Now here's where things get tricky, currently the only options for O2/Downpipes are $500-700 pieces but having someone fab you something up can be done much cheaper. The material needed to make a dump tube and o2 housing can be had for around $125 factor in 2 hours of labor at your favorite fab shop you could have a custom job for as little at $275. So that's a total of $3004 which gives you enough left over to buy our race manifold and hardware kit and still save $465 over the MAP kit which is pretty much as cheap as you can get into a T3 kit without hitting up Ebay.
Nobody said that building race cars was cheap, but if you're going to do a price comparison at least be fair about it. Comparing the cheapest method to the most expensive method is not fair. The beauty of our turbocharger is that you don't need to replace the manifold if you don't want to. Got a nice ported and coated stocker you want to keep? Keep on using it then. If not we do offer a solution that will let you maximize your performance.
Also Buschur has given the ok for these turbos to be used in the stock appearing class at the next shootout.
So just to recap.
MAP Kit w/ BB Turbo and slim line fan - $3919.20
Zero w/ Intake, MV-S, and $700 O2 Solution - $3429
That's $490 less than the T3 option enough left to buy a race manifold and HW kit if you so pleased. Cheaper still if you fab up your own O2 housing solution. Which BTW we're working on a solution for and hope to hit the <$300 target.
So there's a true apples to apples comparison, running the SS housing is still hundreds of dollars cheaper than the lowest cost T3 BB option.

I no my BR turbo kit v-band plus the turbo "6466" lines, wastegate, slim fan, upper rad pipe, rad, and AN fitting you need to buy all totaled out to around $6500-7000.. I had a FP Black it was ALOT cheaper trust me.
If theses FP turbo's came out 6 months earlier id prob own one and not a v-band kit because of the cost of getting one and doing it correctly was about 2x's the cost trust me! Im sure 90% of you guys commenting still have stock frame turbo and don't understand how much it really costs. I was like that too thinking the v-band kit was only 3.5-4k total.. Think again.

Considering it's September that $250 discount no longer applies so if you compare apples to apples their kit with a ball bearing turbocharger is $3819. Not to mention you'll have to do something about the fan that's in the way they offer a solution for $100 making the kit $3919. I'm assuming this kit comes with hardware since they say it's everything you need, but if not tack on another $100 easy. Also factor in your time getting it all to fit properly, kits like these always always always require small modifications to get them to fit. It has nothing to do with build quality but just that every car is different. You'll spend hours and hours of your time installing a kit like this guaranteed.
