Its looking fairly probable that I'm going to have you guys do a Skunk2 vs Magnus V5 on my Evo, so I'll just wait for that data. :-)

Dont' forget stock manifold to start with, to have true baseline.
Although Skunk vs Magnus V5 is valuable, it is almost more valuable to test back to back stock to any one of them two, maybe Stock to Skunk especially since Skunk is still controversial, while Magnus is well accepted.

Given MrFred's history with Testing and data I'm sure he is covering all the bases. Thank you for what you and Aaron have contributed to this community. We all appreciate it.

Looking forward to the results.

I'm surprised Skunk didn't revise their design once they saw how much their manifold is losing by.

I'm using a 4 year old skunk 2 manifold and it works well. My car makes close to 500wtq around 4000 with a similar setup. The magnus or the skunk 2 will offer HP gains over the stock manifold at different power levels.

Rumor has it that recent Skunks are improved, not to say that they do not perhaps loose some to Magnus, but they still can outperform OEM from about 2500rpm and up.

I just had a discussion with local experienced dyno-tuner, and he advised that although never tested directly back to back, on same basic setups observed Skunk to loose up to 8whp to 2500rpm, and than progressively gain up to peek of +5% over OEM unported stock manifold.

That translates to perhaps 20-25whp more on top than unported stock, on typical FP green stock block pump fuel tune.

On such turbo, I doubt ported stocker will gain nearly as much. I think ported stocker will gain on top with larger turbos like 6xxx precision or 3582+ size Garrett.

Looking forward to results

My ideal comparison would be stock vs MAP V3 (currently on my car) vs Skunk2 vs Magnus V5. I have the first three manifolds, and English will loan me a Magnus V5, but the labor for the swaps and dyno time to get this all done in one day would be pretty spendy. If anyone is willing to contribute to the labor, I can set up a gofundme.

I'm willing to contribute. Ideally your car would have a larger turbocharger to see the top end differences (8000+) But you still will be able to collect some good data.

I'd be interested to see if exhaust back pressure is affected much at all.

We have done all of this testing previously and the data is out there. What data isnt posted here I have on our dyno and almost all the logs concerning the important comparisons. I tested stock to Skunk2 to V5 on the same car, I would be asked if I had this combo or that combo. I did the testing on a 6466 car, FP red, stock 10.5 8 turbo, and got the same basic correlation and percentage spread. In the end the Skunk2 lost spool and didnt make any extra power over the stock manifold on E85. On pumpgas it was a little bit ahead but not enough to justify the spool loss. Most importantly return on investment here as a sponsor was negligible and it is difficult to post data without looking like we are advertising.

My 93 pump results of Skunk2(stock tb) in RED vs Curt Brown Extreme Port(70mm TB) in BLUE are in agreement with Aaron's findings.

Faster spool, more power and torque, and more area under the curve.

Since my car isn't together yet, I have a CBRE extreme port manifold I can supply for testing purposes. It has a 70mm opening that I'm pretty sure can still take a 65mm TB.

PM me if you're interested
