HTA71 questions
Hey guys, I have an Evo 8 mr with the stock turbo (10.5 hot side with titanium wheel) running 28 psi on e85 with supporting mods, still on the stock cam at the moment though. I am almost convinced that the HTA 71 is the turbo I’m looking for. I’ve read nothing but good reviews on it. I had a few questions I would like to ask.
How much spool roughly will I lose over my stock Evo 8 mr 10.5 turbo? In my 8, I can put my foot down at 3500rpm and it’ll just sling shot away. Super fun on the road. Just lacks top end without a bigger turbo and cam. Will the HTA71 still be able to come on really hard at 3500 and slingshot like the 8 turbo or will I have to change my driving style and flaw it at 4000rpm for example?
also, would anyone have dyno sheets of this turbo on a stock motor maxed out on e85, with a cam or without a cam for reference? In Australia we use Mainline dynos which are similar to mustang dynos. Sorry if this has been asked before, but I haven’t seen many sheets on mustang dynos, most the sheets I’ve seen are on the dyno jets which read a lot higher of course.
‘I’m hoping this turbo can make 400 hp plus on a mustang dyno with a stock block and can drive similar to my 8 mr turbo. That will seal the deal for sure and make it an easy decision.
thanks a lot everyone!

The 71hta only looses a couple hundred rpm in spool up vs a stock turbo you won't be disappointed.

Thanks for the reply. Hopefully I can still plant it around 4 k then and get a good rush out of it. Still love the smaller turbos on the street. They sling shot away from a lot of high powered cars, even without break boosting them

Very impressive. When abouts are you making full boost if you don’t mind me asking? I got no mivec on the 8 obviously so I’m assuming I’ll make it another 200 or so rpm later then you. And how different are dynapack to mustang dynos? Would that still be over 400whp on a mustang?

also just to double check, do you mean a couple hundred RPM later then an 8 mr turbo or the 9 turbo? 9 turbo with the bigger compressor would come on slightly later then the 8 mr I’d assume? Sorry for so many questions.. none of the tuners I know of in Australia use the 71 hta for some reason.

It's a stock turbo with basically a 20g compressor and surge housing installed, that's it. So if your running out of compressor efficiency it will help, if your bottle necked on the hot-side it won't change that.

Here is an Evo 8, 3rd gear with HTA71. You'll barely notice a difference in spool
