Help! Electrical problem!

I was installing interior lighting in my 05 evo tonight. I was replacing the bulb in by the ignition switch. All went well, except when I tried to reinstall. The bulb cracked because of the tight space. The bulb wire touch the metal on the ignition and next thing I know the horn is going crazy. It was a steady loud tone. I ran to the battery disconnected the negative terminal, and then pulled the horn fuse. If I reconnect the negative terminal now, the parking lights come on constantly, along with all other electrical systems. Everything is normal unless, you re insert horn fuse. Also, if you turn the ignition, to start the car the rear windshield wiper and spray start to come on and stay on. The car will start, but the spray and wiper won't stop. How do I stop this? Is this some anti-theft problem? How do I fix the horn issue? Please someone help me out, I can't figure it out. I know this may be a stupid problem but I really can't understand why it would have reacted that way with just grounding the bulb. I would think it would have popped a fuse, unless the evo is supposed to do this as a theft deterent. Please Help. Thanks, Dade.

i would say that you shorted out the ignition switch.
Just a guess from the info that you posted, that is the only thing that is even remotely close that could cause all of those problems to go wrong.

But why would the stupid horn go off like that? And then when I pull the fuse, the car will start but the wiper and spray in the rear are going like crazy also. How can I check the ignition? Where should I begin to look?

Also, is the only fuse box under the hood? Stupid question, but my other lancer had two. I really hope someone has been through this and can point me in the right direction. Any help at all will be appreciated.

Well, I am thinking that maybe the ignition fuse if there is one (someone let me know if there is and where) could be blown and that is why the horn (hopefully anti-theft deterrent) is going off. The wiper thing is puzzling. Anyway, I am pretty knowledgeable when it comes to audio wiring and some electrical problems but this one is really weird. Somebody has got to have experienced something similar. I would have probably been laughing except I was too busy cutting the loud *** horn off at 10:30 at night with the neighborhood pissed. LOL Help someone.

Im getting ready to go try to figure out what the problem is, I will keep you guys posted. Meanwhile, if you or if you know anyone that is good with the electrical aspect of the evo, let me know what you think. Later, Dade.

look at the engine control fuse in slot 8 under the hood. When i blew that fuse due to a ground in the o2 sensor wire...it made my intercooler go nuts and spray when i tried to turn ignition on.
I know there are two engine control fuses...but just check all fuses to be sure.

but actually if you blew fuse 8....your car wouldnt start.

i guess just pull all fuses.

I took it to mitsubishi today. Hopefully, they can figure it out. I pulled the #8 under the hood. It looked okay, though I have had fuses look good and still be blown before. Hopefully, they can run a circuit test and find out where the problem is. I wonder if anyone knows how they test the electrical system. Is it like the way they test for engine codes? I hope they can figure it out. I have a good feeling that it is just something simple.

My friend is a mechanic and he said you possibly welded your springs in the steering column and grounded out the electrical. These are the springs that make your stalks spring up and down. I don't own an EVO so I don't know what is on your stalks but if all these things are on your stalks, except horn obviously, that is probably your problem. He said in normal cars it is around a 150 dollar fix. All the plastic has to come off around your srteering wheel and the module has to be replaced.

FYI, there is another fuse box behind the little coin holder/compartment thingy by your left knee.

I was doing the same exact thing as the OP, I was replacing the bulb for the Ignition ring around the key and it broke and grounded out. As soon as this happened the horn came on constantly and I disconnected the battery. Every time I reconnect the battery the horn is blaring, so I removed the fuse for the horn.

This is what the car does NOW with the horn fused removed:

-The turn signal lights are illuminated on the gauge cluster and on the headlights, side markers and tail lamps.

-The key ring light is on even with the door closed.

-When the ignition is turned on the rear wiper sprays and moves.

-The keyless entry alarm does not work.

The car does start and run, when I remove the turn signal fuse, horn fuse and the rear wiper fuse you'd never know anything was wrong.

I am currently looking at a Evo IX PDF that has wiring diagrams trying to figure this out.

I believe the keyless entry system is tied into this and I don't think it can be the immobilizer because the car starts.

Sucks that what should have been a 10 min job just became a whole damn project now.
