RS Stereo install... ground wire help.
RS Stereo install... ground wire help.
Ok so I have all of my wires connected and ready to be plugged in on my 06 RS. There is a long ground wire though and none on the new radio harness. Do I need the ground wire or is the car harness already grounded somehow? If so... should I just tape it off?
Depending on the radio, it may not even work properly if not grounded. What kind of radio do you have that doesn't come with a ground on the harness? I've never seen a radio that didn't have a ground.

The best thing to do is to go ahead and ground it at a good point behind the stereo. There should be ample choices of where to ground it. Although the stereo MAY work without that ground, it would be safest to do it. I have grounded all of the Pioneers that I have ever installed and they worked well.

The Antenna grounds the radio on the Evo. No other ground should be needed. I just installed a Kenwood head unit last night in my new Evo. I taped off the black ground harness from the headunit harness, and it works perfectly.
Um... if you use the factory metal brakets to the metal body of the radio with the metal screws to the metal bracing in the dash.......... see the trend. It's grounded basiclly is what I am saying. The radio should have a ground, the harness might not because the mitsu harness doesnt have a ground in it.
In the dash, on either side of the radio, there are 2 screws sticking in towards where the radio goes. Both are covered with a rubber stop. Install a small ring terminal on the end of your ground wire. Remove the grommet/stop from one of the screws. Slip the terminal over the screw. Screw the grommet back on so that it is holding the terminal tight against the metal dash casing.
Wa-la the head unit is now grounded. This is how I grounded both my head-unit and my touchscreen monitor.
