Pioneer DEH-P6900UB and USB Port
i formated FAT32... i can hear that it is trying to spin and doesn't actually start so its def a power issue...
After I reformatted it I didn't have any problems at all. Is this a Western Digital one? You've tried using thumb drives or something else to make sure your head unit works correctly?
I don't know what to tell you if you can't get enough power... I know they make some USB cables that go from 2 usb ports to one in order to get more power, but that wouldn't really help here.

did you have any problems running the hdd off the deck? my hdd just came today, it runs solely off the usb cable off my computer fine, but when i plug it into my deck it doesnt get recognized...

yea i formated it as FAT32. i also know that several other devices have worked off of my deck:
- my thumb drive
- ipod nano
- an olllld *** hdd in my friend's enclosure
i'm going to try using another enclosure and see if its just the enclosure and not the power draw from the hdd itself. i could run a wire for power but i'd rather not.
worst case, i'm going to pick up a drive at staples and just return it if it doesnt work and just use the one i have now for backup. i needed a backup drive anyway so its really not the end of the world.
i'll let you know what happens.

I'd like to see pics if someone did do it in the glove box though!
I contemplated which spot for a whole afternoon... I honestly can't remember why I chose the console over the glove compartment. I do like that it is easy to get to so when I get out of the car I can grab it quickly and take it out rather than reaching over to the glove box.

^^ ahh, i will try this too.....I read in the manual it does support up to 250gb hd's at fat32...so i bought a 120gb hd, i did also hook it up to the extension cable that was supplied...i will remove that and see if it starts to work for me too.
For those looking to do this...
Make sure you get a drive which is 500 mA or lower!!! USB 2.0 maxes out at that amperage. Anything higher and you'll have to run a seperate power wire!
You need the MITAH cable to connect to the factory speakers and you need the harness adapter to connect the head unit to the car's wiring.
You can see both cables here, but you may be able to find a better deal somewhere else... http://www.autotoys.com/x/catalog/PE...IT_p_1234.html
