could you write up step by step or is it literally:
1. Take existing sub out
2. Unplug wiring of inifinity sub from stock infinity amp
3. Install new sub, run wire to head unit if it has a dedicated sub line
4. Seal up new box.

I'm an audio amateur at best, so add detail as needed - Admins, could we make this a sticky since as the OP pointed out, there is a dearth of information re removal and installation of a new sub in the stock ssl sub place. . .
Step by step.... okay....

Prerequisites for this installation would include installation of a MITAH adapter, and an aftermarket amplifier.

1. Unplug negative battery terminal.
2. Unhook SSL wiring to the subwoofer box.
3. Remove rear carpet and remove SSL box.
4. Remove star screws holding the protection screen on the box. (These screws will also hold the stock speaker in place)
5. Remove speaker and rubber grommet surrounding the SSL Wiring going into the box.
6. Trim plastic molding that holds stock speaker in place from the SSL box so the new speaker lays as flush as possible inside the SSL box's hole.
7. Remove rubber grommet from SSL wiring and install over 3-4 feet of new speaker wire, and reinstall the grommet into the SSL box's hole.
8. Place weather stripping around the new speakers cage so the speaker will have a better seal in the SSL box.
9. Optional step, but it it was necessary for better sound quality for me.... Pack the SSL box with poly-fill or for the ghetto method, I used batting material from the inside of a pillow.
10. Install speaker wire on correct terminals and mount speaker in the SSL box. (You may have to trim more plastic molding from the inside of the box depending on how deep your speaker sits. I didn't measure the mounting depth of the box, so I am not sure of the maximum mounting depth sorry)
11. Reinstall the protection screen on the SSL box, and reinstall SSL box and rear carpet.
12. Hook up speaker wires to your amp.
13. Reattach negative battery terminal.
14. Enjoy a much needed, but not overwelming amount of bass.

Looking to do the same, just don't want to buy a sub that's too deep.

Don't you mean deck? If you are using an aftermarket amp, you'd probably want to use new wiring...

Yeah, but if he still wants to use the infinity amp and stock 6 3/4 then he will need a MITAH adapter that way he can still run the stock amp too.

I realize that. Read the part I made bold in his post that I quoted. He originally posted about needing the adapter if changing the AMP...
He would only need a mitah if he was replacing the deck but keeping the stock amp.
