Polk MMC6500 Fitment

These component speakers look pretty nice and are well-reviewed, but I don't know if they will fit in the stock front speaker locations (2.5" deep or so for the Polk MMC6500).

Anyone installed these without a spacer or can anyone provide the stock mounting location depth?

You'll need to build a speaker adaptor to mount them. 1/4" or 1/2" MDF will work perfectly. I had to do that with my set up and they fit just fine. Those Polks sound quite nice...good choice.

The doors are plenty deep for these speakers. Crutchfield was having a sale on them when I purchased them, and came with the adapters for free.

The Polk Momo components are 2 11/16" depth...so he'll need some type of spacer/mounting bracket to make them fit. You can make them out of MDF (really easy)...see here...

Scroll down to my post...post #6 and there's a how-to to make the brackets.

And you can see the final product that I made in this thread...

Thanks for all the information. I see there is a lot I still need to think about before I make the plunge.

Does that mean I don't have to make a separate one out of MDF? Have you installed these yourself?

MDF spacers are far more dense then most ABS spacers. Also, you can use your stock speakers as a template for the spacers to ensure you wont be drilling through sheetmetal but instead using the exhisting holes.

Just make them out of MDF. The Polk Momo's put out a decent amount of bass and the MDF will be better than ABS plastic. It's really easy...trust us And if you don't have a jigsaw, you can buy one from Home Depot for around $40.

Don't forget to put Dynamat (or equivalent) all over the door panel and inside the door on the outer door skin. Will be the best thing you can do for the doors

Does the door speaker holes need to be cut to fit the MMC6500's in the doors?

I was talking to a rep from crutchfield, and he kept on insisting that even with the spacer, the speaker holes in the door, will need to be cut to allow the basket to fit through.

Can anybody shed some light on that?

And one more question, whats a good amp to run with the MMC6500's?

They will fit through the hole without cutting the hole larger. You'll just need to make the 1/2" MDF mounting brackers.

As for amp, there are lots of great options. Polk's 400.4 amp is actually made to work directly with those speakers. It has a special EQ function that sets the EQ and crossover perfectly for those speakers so you can bi-amp them. That would be a great fit. Otherwise, the new Alpine PDX amps are solid and JL Audio has great amps. There are plenty of more expensive amp options. What's your budget for the amp?

can anyone explain what it means when you "bridge" an amp?

* 75 watts x 4 @ 4 ohms
* 100 watts x 4 @ 2 ohms
* 200 watts x 2 @ 4 ohms (bridged)

thats the specs on the website for the polk c400.4 amp, and I should be powering these speakers with an amp around 150watts or so right?
