Tweeter location for aftermarket components?

I searched and only noted one thread where someone installed their tweeters in the sail panels, most Evo owners seem to like the stock location in the A-pillars. Can any one else chime in? Has anyone installed tweeters in the kick panels?

I installed my tweeters in the door panels directly next to the door handle. Provides great imaging and less reflection off the windshield. Works for me. see it here.

Scroll just about to the end and you'll see the pics of the tweets in the doors.

I have mine installed in the stock location, but because of their location, as adamble03 mentions, there is alot of reflection off the windshield and gives me an extremely bright sound. I have these tuned down big time with the cross overs, and it sounds 90% of the way there, but not all the way.

When I replace my components and my surround amp, I will be mounting them like adamble03. I also suggest buying tweeter mounts that allow the mount to sit flush, but to angle the tweeters slightly up and to the rear.

I also have them mounted in the factory location. They are bright like others have said firing off the windsheild. I have a processor, so I tuned them down with the parametric eq. An alternative if your dont want to cut the doors like I didnt.

Thanks for the replies!

The component set that I am considering (Pioneer Premier TS-C720PRS) apparently has tweeters that are considered to be bright so it sounds like the stock location is out... I'm not sure kicks are such a great option either-- has that practice fallen out of favor?

well i installed my tweeters on the seat belt pillar the one right by ur head just put it up high enough so u can adjust ur seat a lil bit. but i like sitting lower in my seat so it wasnt that big of a deal and it gives off great sound from there. just kinda sucks for tall people.

Seems like a logical location. I'll have to experiment as well, but did either of you guys try a location slightly lower, near the mid? I suppose it depends on the tweeter, i.e. a brighter tweet would sound better down low but I've heard some good systems with tweets down low, even in the kicks...

I tried just about every place in the car to get good imaging and keep reflections off the glass to a minimum. The closer you can get them to the midrange is always the best. Problem with our door panels is that they begin to angle down towards the floor the lower you go. So, your tweeter would wind up pointing down which would hurt imaging.

One option would be to build a custom bracket to hold the tweeter out in front of the midrange, but behind the door panel. That way it could be angled upwards. Something like this bracket...

Exactly why I was considering Boston Pros--- thay allow for this type of mounting. Twice what I want to spend though...
