Location of Wires for Alarm Install
what's up guys. i'm getting ready to install my Viper alarm and i have the wiring cheat sheet that i got from this site. i just have a question about the location of a few wires. the ignition harness is in the steering column, right? where is the Driver Kick Panel located? is that the spot to the right of the gas pedal? what about the Cluster Plugs? how about the switch and the fuse box? also, are the wire colors different between the Evo 8 and 9's? thanks.
WOW! Dont take this the wrong way, but I would let a professional installer take car of that alarm for you. The ignition harness is to the left of the steering column. The Drivers kick panel is to the left of the left foot rest. The "guage" cluster plugs are behind the guage cluster. What switch are you talking about? There are a hundred switches in that car. The fuse box is behind the panel that your dimmer switch is located in. Some wire colors are different between the 8 and 9 but most are the same. You can cause hundreds or thousands of $$ in damage by connecting wires wrong in your car. So use caution.

haha i think i'm capable of doing the install. i just wanted to make sure of where everything was. i'm pretty familiar with most of the locations of the wires listed in the wiring cheat sheet, but i didnt know the actual names for the locations (if that makes sense). i've installed my turbo timer and a complete stereo system for my evo (amp, in dash dvd player + head unit, two 12" subs, capacitor, component speakers, and i upgraded the speaker wires to 12 awg.)
I would also suggest leaving it to the professionals. I have seen some terrible alarm installs through the shop I work at. Not trying to say you cant do a good job, but an alarm is only as good as its install. Take your time and tape everything up black. Also using yellow tape on certain wires to make them look like airbag wiring will deter a potential thief from cutting it. Good luck!

Here, let me make it easy for you:

DKP = Driver's Kick Pannel which is to the left of the clutch.
Ignition Harness is attached to the ignition key switch
Hope this helps you.

No offense, but typical Best Buy installs are the primary source of the alarms we have to fix at our shop. They let any kid off the street start working on cars. Not saying the guys at your BB are bad, just the ones around me. There are good and bad installers everywhere. If you take your time, plan our your wiring, and throughly test your wires, all will be well. Heres an example of one that I pulled out of a car, looked just like this in the car:
