Leave Parcel Shelf Holes Open = Better Sub Sound?

I have a few threads now on my stereo upgrade path ... still waiting on some parts. In the meantime, I was wondering ...

With a 10" eD sub and 0.5 CF sealed box going into the trunk, what if I removed the stock rear speakers and simply left the parcel shelf holes ... open, hidden by the stock grilles?

Would the sub move the air in the passenger compartment better? Would the bass be more clear? Maybe a dumb question, but I'm just wondering.

Hey Rod. Figured all your stuff would have been in by now.

For your question, I'm not 100% sure in an Evo. In some cars it helps...in some it hurts.

Since it's so easy to remove the rear speakers, try it both ways and let us know. I'd be interested to hear the outcome.

Thanks; I was thinking the same thing, for lack of a clear answer.

Got two amps and the sub so far. . .. still waiting on the front components and the sub box ...

Thanks; that's interesting. If I do leave the stock speakers in the parcel shelf, I imagine they will vibrate sympathetically and transmit some of the higher subwoofer frequencies, too. I'll have to do some experimentation ....

I left my rear speakers out of my car and it increased the sub punch a little....nothing too dramatic.

I also took the rears out. I think it sounded a little more natural that way.
