nice job... i was wondering what would be a good sub to swap out with the stock one. How do you like it compared to the stock infinity sub? and you had to make the hole bigger right...considering the stock one is only 8".

EDIT: should reread the first post.
At least this gives me some motivation to mount a 10" into mine.
I'll be running something not so shallow and using mdf to bring the woofer out more so it can fit

did you add additional power to the sub or are you still running the SSL amp ?

I am somewhat dissappointed with bass response after improving my head unit. I can only get decent bass 1) when the car is off 2) at relatively high volume levels....

I am still using the factory amp tho and do not have a separate volume control for the sub.....

oops srry bad reading skills: is ur replacement amp 5 channel ?

Anyone know the specs of the stock Sub? Any idea of swapping in a 10" like this would be worthwhile on the stock SSL amp?

I think I might try this, I have my old precision power amp in a box somewhere, and my sony deck has an extra sub output on it....

edit: the stock sub is 6ohms I believe, how dumb is that? Looks like wiring in a nice mono amp is the way to go.

I'm hoping to get mine installed today.
I have a 10" sub that is really like a 9.25" mounting diameter and 5.75 depth.
I'm going to be reverse mount the sub into the box with a wood baffle and hope it plays well that way.

I like the setup. I'm probably going to use a clarion or kenwood shallow mount to see how it sounds.

response

i dont know about a shallow mount, they were made for guys with pickups with limited space, we have evos with suprisingly alot of trunk space, with the stock box, a good memphis or a 3rd grade orion (the grade right before HCCA) would be a nice replacement, but even with a headunit, it needs a much better amp. its like getting a bunch of mods, but with no tune. just what i've collected over my years

I presume this setup is mainly for aesthetics and not real sound performance? If you take into consideration the airspace requirements, I doubt you meet what is required of the 10" sub? You will have to excuse my pessimism on the sound upgrades as Im one of those performance and audiophile enthusiasts at the same time. Wouldnt it be better for sound to do the enclosure in fiberglass, instead of a resin plastic like the ssl? Even filled with polyfil for the "illusion" of tighter sound cant change too much.
