Putting aftermarket deck in ssl package

Hey guys,
I have an 04 viii with the ssl package. I am planning on putting a deck in that I can use my ipod with. I've heard of guys getting rca's and hardwiring them in, instead of ordering the "mitah" adapter. Does this hurt sound quality at all? I've searched and found that it seems like everyone just buys the adapter. Do you guys reccomend hardwiring it? Then stupid question but do I need a harness for my power plug?

Thanks!
Justin

your better off just ordering the adapter. You are also going to need a separate adapter for power ground antenna etc. If you order your deck from crutchfield they will include all of the adapters needed for the installation at no additional cost

You might try reading the Evo audio info thread. There's some good info about using aftermarket headunit to ssl evos.

I also have the SSL with an aftermarket head unit. I would highly advise getting the MITAH/METRA adapters. It makes the installation so much easier. The aftermarket head unit also wakes up the system.

Here is the run down... Basically the stock SSL radio has a low level output harness that feeds into the stock infinity amp. What the MITAH adapter does is turns the low level input harness into 2 sets fo RCA jacks so you can plug them directly into an aftermarket headunits pre-amp outputs... Painless install

MITAH is the round adapter with the RCA's on the other end with the blue wire for the remote turn on of the factory SSL amp. Basically this feeds the preamp signal form the aftermarket deck to the factory amp.

Metra is the blocky looking white adapter that mates up to the aftermarket head unit plug for power, memory, backlight dimmer, etc... I have removed all the extra wires fromt eh metra harness in the above picture link.
