Alternator Whine

I have a Pioneer deck and Rockford amps, factory SSL highs and a Rockford sub. I've tried switching HU's, and moving around the RCA's to rule out a bad amp but the alt whine remains. Has anyone tried a line conditionioner and/or grounding kit to solve a bad alt whine? I've always been afraid of using a line conditioner because I figure its like spraying perfume over a sack of garbage rather then just taking out the garbage, or that it will end up filtering out my SQ, but at this point I'm willing to try almost anything. I'm thinking this will be the last Pioneer HU I'll ever own.

What model of pioneer is it? Some pioneers, if not all, are known for having ground noise. It's a blown "fuse" inside. Like above, ensure your grounds are good. Are the SSLs amplified? If they are does the whining get louder as you turn up the volume or is it a constant level?

You're right about the conditioner/filter. They're a bandaid. There's no reason you can't get rid of this noise.

if you have moved your rca's around and still having issues. it could be your headunit, you may need to move up with a different headunit that has higher v preouts. possibly try something with like a 5v + if you can. otherwise i have seen some amps go bad and causing horrible whine.

I would find a factory grounding spot and relocate the radio ground to that location, a;so try to run a new set of rca's outside of the car and see if that helps.

Thansk for all the replies. I am guessing it is the Pioneer decks fault. I've traded RCAs, moved RCAs, even traded HUs (for the same model) and nothing works. I can move the sound from speaker to speaker, but thats it. It is a Pioneer 9800BT.

I will be getting an Eclipse 7200mkII

Pioneer radios every now and then have a bad rca ground, it has something to do with the deck internally. Take some wire and wrap it around the female side of the rca outputs on the deck and ground it to one of the screws on the radio on the back. This should provide a better ground for your rca's. Give that a shot before buying a new deck and see how it goes.

I did on a customers car today, when he said he suddenly had bad alternator whine coming from his subs and it solved it. He had a Pioneer dehp7800 (can't remember last two letters).

Check your grounds again that might be the problem, or make sure all the wires are not loose have it all tide up tight.
