Evo VIII ECU in 2G GSX

Hey guys,

Like the title suggests, I'm attempting to put an Evo VIII ECU into my '99 GSX so that I can run EcuFlash for tunning.

At this point, the only question I have is how to disable the imobilizer in the Evo VIII ECU so that I don't need to have a programmed key in order to start the car. Does anyone have any info on this? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Not sure how to do that.

Why didn't you just stick to an EPROM ECU and use DSMLink? Last I heard the interface is going to be like using EcuFlash.

Try asking this question in the EcuFlash forum located here.

DSMLink is $500+ for the software, and another 2-300 for an Eprom ECU. And all though they keep saying it will soon have 3-dimensional mapping, currently it still doesn't.

I bought a used Evo VII ecu for $150, and EcuFlash is free (and from what I understand, a more powerful tuning solution as of today). The only thing that appears to be standing in my way is this engine imobilizer issue.

You can get around that issue with Ecuflash.

REALLY?

I'm relatively familiar with the basic functions of the software, but I've never tried anything like this. Would someone be kind enough to explain in detail how to do this?

Thanks in advance.

Just search, it's been spelled out, easy as pie to do. All detailed in the ECUFlash section. This is not something that should have a 'howto' written for it for obvious reasons.

Last night I downloaded an Evo VIII base map from the EcuFlash forums. Before yesterday, it's been probably 1-2 years since I've used the program. The option for disabling the imobilizer is right there at the top of the list! I never remember seeing that before...maybe because I was never looking for it before.

I'm going to be moving forward with this next week, so I'll let everyone know how it goes.

Thanks for the help.

I've heard of the opposite swap being done, and I recall it not being a simple task. DSMLink is a far better option.

Do you recall what made the task so difficult?

And why do you say DSMLink is a far better option? DSMLink still only offers 2-dimensional mapping, and it would cost me close to $800. I just bought an Evo VII Ecu for $150. So, even if I have to spend $600 making it work, I still have a cheaper and more robust tuning solution, correct?
