Ok so here's the scenario... My Car got broken into a few weeks back. The car was actually parked on my driveway too. Pretty much just smashed my driver side window got inside and jacked my stereo. Luckily that's all they took.

But problem now is that they cut the stereo harness. Now my question is does anyone know if the harness goes through the whole dash and need to replace the whole thing or does the actual stereo harness just unplugs somewhere and I just need to replace that one harness?

I'm pretty sure it goes throughout the whole car. I would just solder on the plug that comes with your new headunit, assuming you're getting one.

yeah didn't want to do that but that seems to be the easy thing to do... was just wondering if I can just get a new harness and just plug it back in

 

That sucks man. Was it aftermarket? Do you have an alarm? Parking a car in a driveway is never safe. Grew up in a decent neighborhood but stuff like that always happened. So glad I have a garage now and I actually take out my face and bring it inside when I go somewhere now.

 

You could just solder the harness from your new headunit right on, or if you want, Find a person that has crashed their car and is parting it out and ask them to cut the harness that plugs into the factory radio and solder that back into the existing wires.

 

The wires do go throughout the whole car as someone mentioned earlier.


The way I see it you have two options.

1. Solder the new radio's harness to the cars cut harness.

2. Buy this harness, Metra part number 71-7001, and solder it to the cut car side harness, This way you get to keep your stock plug still. From there on, Just get the Metra 70-7001 and plug that into your new car side harness and solder it to your new radios harness.

Metra is aftermarket stereo parts. Dealership cannot order this for you. Goto BBY or Circuit City and have them order it for you. Good Luck. Worse comes to worse, I can always order the part at work and ship it to you, but either store should be able to do it for you. Also, any local audio shop can also order you the part. Either metra, AMI, or scosche(last choice).

Part number is: MET 717001 exactly. So even if those two places don't know what you are talking about, have them just order you that. Good luck!

 

You can buy those parts online for about 15 bucks.

BBY and Circuit City usually do carry the 71-XXXX harness in their store. More commonly you would see the 70-XXXX at BBY and 80-XXXX at Circuit City, which is the harness that fits into the 71-XXXX.

I would just order the harness this weekend and it'll probably be in sometime within a week.
