Sure, except the front speakers are typically HP'd at ~80Hz, not dipping nearly as low at a lower amplitude. You get the aural queues and the mind fills in the rest. It's a matter of deciding whether listening to music is more important than opening a trunk and displaying a big sub, as inefficient, badly configured, and ill-sounding as it may be. At the very least, if you're going to take on the current draw and the weight, get a driver better suited to the project.

You can have a sub in an Evo. Hell, I have one and it tips the scales at 33-26lbs, depending, but it's not just a matter of dropping a Type-R into a box and hooking it up. That is, again, if one is after something more than a big blob of bass. I can tell you how to do it. It'll rattle your mirrors and pound your chest 'till you can't breathe, all the while producing defined, well-articulated low-end. It's not an expensive solution, either, but you have to be willing to work with the constraints presented by the car and tune accordingly. From what I've gathered, you know very little about audio. As such, you need to decide how far you're willing to go to make this happen.

an interference pattern will be created when almost any 2 sounds are played at once. so it would seem to me that to combat this problem would just bean issue of eliminating or reducing one of the sounds. in this case it would be road noise. so why would sound deadening not work?
Sound deadening doesn't reduce road noise; it decreases panel resonance. MLV can reduce road noise at ~1lb/ft2.

It's not just the road noise. It's the combination of road/tire/ambient/and drivetrain. The Evo is one of the loudest cars around. An aftermarket exhaust just adds to the fun.

I must have missed this the first time around. I'm afraid you're completely off base, no pun intended. A sub that's not tuned, playing in a rolling Evo, sounds like a roar. There's little perceptible bass. It all sounds like one note somewhere far away. Depending on speed and the exhaust, there's no noticeable bass at all. Adding power makes little difference. It's like feeding power into a standing wave; regardless of desired amplitude, the sound won't get louder.

All this can be overcome and doing so is not very difficult, but it is a little more involved than sticking a sub in the trunk.

Subs and amps do have weight to them but who cares? Are you racing? It's about the difference between having a fat chick or a skinny chick in the passenger seat. I don't think the extra weight will make you car too slow.
Let's not miss the point. Any system will add some weight. My own Evo gained ~70lbs (net). The question is, to what benefit? Installing flawed gear just because it's there, when the equipment can be sold and the money used for a gear appropriate for the project, doesn't make a whole lot of sense. The pointless addition of weight is just adding insult to injury. Too, the system can be installed in a way as to minimize the effect of the weight, but that also requires some planning.

and if you would like to further explain how to tune audio in our cars correctly, it would be appreciated! =)
