HVAC Knob help

Is it common for evos to have crappy hard to turn hvac knobs? If I turn my knob all the way to "max a/c" it sits fine, but when I turn it all the way to the hottest selection it just turns itself back to the middle where the blue/red meet on its own. Both my brother and I have evo 8s and the cold/hot knob is hard as **** to turn. I don't know if this is a contributing factor, but I also don't have any heat in my car and nor does my brother, even if the knob is turned all the way to heat. I've read that the cable might have to be adjusted in the back, but would that fix my "no heat" problem? Winter is coming soon and I'm gonna die if I don't have my heat lol.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!!

I currently have the exact same issue you are having. I have found a bunch of threads on this but if you have a fix please post. Its starting to get cold and I freeze every day on the way to work.

almost everyone has the "heat knob problem" matter of fact i just broke my knob few days ago LOL.... instead of looking for a new knob, or even replacing the whole HVAC system, I just use the little lever under the dash because to switch it either on cold or hot.. it should look like something like this and it will be to the righ of the "gas pedal" I geuss every 6 months switch it from cold to hot or other way around lol.. It simple and easy and save your self some $.

I just repaired mine this past weekend. I got the updated gears from Russell and installed them with moderate plastic gear lube. I didn't have to do the whole - take dash out and replace the mix panel (shew) and I'm happy now.
The revised gears takes about 15 minutes to swap out. I pulled my driver seat out for room laying down, but you don't have to.
Of course, if you've broken your knob, that's another problem, but get these gears and swap them out if you're trying to fix it all.

Can you post part numbers of exactly what you purchased?

Maybe you will be lucky and get by with new cables and revised gears, I wasnt so lucky. So I will have to take my dash out to fix this, the dreaded gummed up blend door, so for now i just run my hand under the dash and change to change hot/cold...

Yea, i fall in the crowd that needs to replace the blend door. I'm gonna see if my friend can fab up a lever attached to the outside gear with a cable that runs along the center console. Maybe that way i can turn it without reaching all the way down there. I just refuse to take the whole dash apart to fix this stupid problem.

Im not happy about it either lol but its annoying having to reach under the dash. And it almost impossible to reach the one that changes where the air comes out...

is there any way to tell if it's the gears or the door being the problem. my knob is stuck in the middle. won't go to cold or hot. i'm just glad i don't drive mine in winter or i'd be without heat.

lol thanks for the help, im just gonna deal with it and use the little lever down bottom, its not much of a big enough problem for me to change it out.
